Thanks for the link to the video. I like running it at 1/2 speed -- so I can look around a bit... - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## -----Original Message----- From: Fractint [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of JackOfTradeZ@comcast.net Sent: Thursday, June 23, 2016 11:42 PM To: fractint@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Fractint] AOTD June232016 I stumbled across this while googling for other things, it is from a fractal art contest dated circa 2000, Paul N. Lee's old web site. The GIF image had all the fractint params, and it didn't require any special FRMs etc., so I was able to load and play with it.There are no lakes, brots, or minis - and it seems to have no "beginning" or "end". You can't back out past e-5 and I don't know why - I have encountered this before; it is both intriguing and frustrating! Thus I will name it "Etherial", and dedicate it to Paul N. Lee. I don't know how or where to upload this in his remembrance [other than my own UFVP site, which I will do soon] - maybe someone on this list can help with that? The animation is at 1024x768, HiRes AVI format; 1min45sec; ZIP file is 520 MEG - about a 10min download if you have a good connexion. http://www.fractal-animation.net/special/Ethereal1024.zip .Muth and others here have occasionally mused about quantum mechanics. I took a couple courses in school, advanced physics electives. I was intrigued - explanations of why certain chemicals have certain colors, concepts like the Hiesenburg uncertainty principle, etc.; I continued delving into it for a while after school, but quickly got in way over my head with the math, and ended up shelving it. Now I have heard a story about a contemporary physicist or mathematician [can't recall name or details] ; apparently he was one of the few dozen people in the world who are able to fully grasp the depths of QM. He apparently discovered something about the true nature of the "reality" we are all imprisoned in. It freaked him out so much he went insane and eventually committed suicide. Anyone ever hear anything about this? I am pretty sure it is true, not some urban legend. Thus it is unnerving even at that - is our true nature and reality such that we can not ever understand it? Or if we try to, we will not be able to handle it? As if we are not "supposed" to ever really know, nor even try to figure it out?Can all that we know and perceive, from the tiniest quantum particle to the largest galaxy, all be some kind of "projected game space" that is being "played" and run moment by moment? Since we apparently exist in 10 dimensions, the "projection" must come from an even higher dimensional order. 11 dimensions? Infinite dimensions? As Shakespear said: "All the world is a fractal, and all the people merely pixels..."Those versed in the history of science as well as science itself might recall that at the turn of the last century the world of physics was dancing with joy, thinking everything was pretty much wrapped up as the new century dawned. There were a few "minor" issues remaining, like the newly discovered photoelectric effect, radioactivity, and what made the sun and stars shine, but oh well - we pretty much have it all in the bag now right!? Well, the new century introduced special and general relativity, quantum mechanics and nuclear theory, and finally chaos (complex systems, non-linear dynamics) theory, all of which totally redefined our perception of reality. And here we are a century later, making the same silly error. Laughing and smirking at the ideas of multiple, higher order (dare I say "spiritual") dimensions beyond our measurement and perception, or the idea that we are not alone on this planet with intelligence, consciousness, and sentience - that many other animals share these traits as well. Thinking we have it all in the bag NOW right!? Will we ever learn? The years and decades to come will bring forth ideas and knowledge that would be as strange to us now as quantum tunneling would have seemed to even the most brilliant 19th century physicist. Can't hardly wait! _______________________________________________ Fractint mailing list Fractint@mailman.xmission.com https://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/fractint --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
