Paul, I respect your feelings on this. I, too, mainly do things for myself, but occasionally want to share. I know most people read the posts and maybe check out the image/file and rarely, if ever, comment. After 25+years in the fractint community, I am used to that. If I was in it for the glory I would be sorely disappointed. My hope is that by posting audio fractals I may stimulate someone else to explore in the directions I have been heading. I am getting a bit long-in-the-tooth, with rapidly degenerating eyesight (not the best predicament for a photographer) and would love it if someone felt like taking the torch and running with it. I am struggling to get an adequate fractint system put back in place, but until then, I intend to start posting past project files. It has been a fun process for me to go back as far as I can locate stuff, and sort of retrace my personal journey with fractint. It is the only fractal program I have ever used, or will ever use, for better or worse. I became enthralled with the generational process of fractals...watching the orbits as they generate and then being able to put sounds to those orbit calculations, starting with ver. 15.11, which was contained in "Fractal Creations" - I still have the book, 5 1/4" floppy, poster and 3D glasses. I believe that Lee Skinner (still lurking Lee?) may have been the creator of the image on the cover, though I couldn't find attribution. I don't see this as a battle for supremacy or any other such notion. I certainly know there is no glory involved. I just firmly believe that there is more than one way to experience the beauty, complexity and endless variety of fractals. I definitely intend to post some of my audio fractals - feedback +/- encouraged. It should be an interesting contrast in styles - if anyone is interested.
I am always interested in seeing and hearing of new creations that have to do with fractals. But you most likely will get the same response from me and many others, which is to quietly sit in the background.
I tend to only respond to those exceptional contributions which really are quite entertaining, unique (totally new or different), and/or some other aspect which makes them stand out from everything else in their category.
Problem is... most everybody is looking for praise and glory for what they are sharing with those that see their "posts" (whether email, websites [Facebook, forums, personal, etc.], or some other method of display). And when they do not get the adoration expected, they either quit or move on to someplace else. This has been going on for as far back in time as there have been people. Only a very small few ever get truly recognized for their efforts. And an even smaller number of those ever make any profit from it.
I only do things for my own enjoyment, and sometimes I will share my creations, if I think it may be of interest to some of my friends. But if they do not get any response, I no longer care, because I am not doing it for others, I do it for myself. And occasionally, I do get a positive response, and that indicates to me there is someone with a similar interest as mine in what was done.
Sincerely, P.N.L.
