FOTD -- October 25, 2009 (Rating 9) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is unusual enough to earn a rating of a lofty 9. It is a scene in the parent fractal that results when various negative parts of Z^(-1.4) and Z^(-4.4) are combined and (1/C) is added. One full point of the rating is due to the extra effort I put into the coloring and the bit of luck I had with bringing up random color palettes. The parent fractal is a typical double-negative thing, with a prominent 'fan' extending east from the origin and filaments that terminate in rings. Today's image is located toward the eastern edge of the 'fan'. The name "Fractal Dissolution" refers to the appearance of the image, which gives the impression of being caught in the act of evaporating. BTW, the image is not 'evaporated'. The evapora- ted version is too chaotic. The calculation time of 2-3/4 minutes is thankfully brief, and will make the image available to everyone who wishes to calculate it. The temperature of 68F 20C was mild enough, but the day was spoiled by heavy clouds and torrential rain during the late morning.
