FOTD -- July 16, 2003 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: hi ya remember me mpdkwsjfzxks . . . Could a FOTD possibly be spam? No, but I just set a new record of over 100 spams in one download. One of these days I'll change my e-mail address, but not quite yet. (We'll let it reach 150.) Today's image is one of the more unusual ones in my vast collection of fractal images. Yet it has been created with nothing more exotic than the classic equal-iteration-bands method of rendering and coloring. I named the picture "Mandeloid Spectacle" on a whim, and rated it at an 8. The rating seems justified for such an unusual image, filled as it is with luminous bits and pieces, which are actually basins containing smaller midgets. The generating formula subtracts 1.1 parts of Z^1.1 from 1.1 parts of Z^(-0.9), then adds (1/C). The parent fractal created by this formula consists of a well-defined Mandeloid, with a fragment of a second Mandeloid to the west and south. Today's scene is located in the rudimentary East Valley of the Mandeloid fragment. The 15-minute render time is in the range where it starts to get boresome. But 13 of those 15 minutes can be saved if the completed image is downloaded from one of the FOTD web sites at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and at: <http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/index.html> Both the fractal weather and the fractal cats were near perfect Tuesday here at Fractal Central. The weather featured blue skies, cotton-puff clouds, and a temperature of 84F 29C; the cats featured perfect behavior and a restful day in the yard and on the porch. Today is forecast to be warmer with a chance of rain. The cats' future behavior is totally unpredictable. My future behavior, at least for the rest of the morning, will feature an intensive effort to clear away the few remnants of the work backlog. The next FOTD will appear in 24 or so hours. Until then, take care, and fractal images often speak louder than fractal words.
