Last time I saw a Targa board over here, it was 1995 (i think). It was state-of-the-art at the time, but ridiculously overpriced.

Egad! I scared folks unnecessarily. I was referring to Targa video support, not to the creation of TGA files.
I don't think there are many of those boards left, if any, so we might as well remove the code, which we can't test anyway, and it is getting in the way. TGA FILE support, however, is essential and we aren't considering removing it.
