I know this is off-topic, but I figured I could find developers here with good advice. Anyone out there working in C++ for Windows 10? I need to port a bunch of MS-DOS Borland Turbo C++ code and would really like to avoid learning a new programming language if possible. I've done some preliminary research on compiler options, but would like input from trusted sources. Thanks in advance! - Bud (AKA Mark Christenson)

Practical fractal

As mentioned in previous threads, and attempted through a frm and par file; I'm also interested in the application of Fractals to the classical representations of Nature. In particular the solution of non linear differential equations. At the inception of Fractint, there was the discrete representation of differential equations; the Lorenz attractor being one of these. Has this progressed; is there accompanying documentation ?

Hi all, Just wondering if this mailing list is still alive, I noticed the forums are not active, I hope people still use Fractint. A more practical question: I have v20 of Fractint and just installed v16. I’ve tried to run some of the formulas that come with v20 on v16: the main formulas (FractInt.frm) of v20 run fine on v16 however all the rest of the formulas under /frm do not run (I get error messages) - I thought there was compatibility, am I doing something wrong? Cheers!

Funding of Fractint mailing lists

So as long as the current hosting of fractint and fractdev mailing lists by xmission suits you, I think we should continue it. If you ever want to change your support, just let me know,. Tim

Question about XFractint

Good afternoon from balmy Hawaii! I came up with a fractal at 3840x2160 (4K resolution) that I saved and would like to reload and render in a 30000x30000 disk video mode but when I pick that disk video mode selection to change the mode, generate it, and save the resulting image, it's only 3840x2160 resolution. Running SDL2-Xfractint-20.05alpha-2021-07-03.tar.xz downloaded from fractint.org/experimental on 64-bit Debian 11, i9 processor with 64GB of RAM and 780GB of disk space free, so neither memory nor disk space should be a limitation. An interesting composition from Albrecht Niekamp again - with the very appropriate title: "Games Colors Play". When I first glance at this fractal, my brain momentarily interprets it incorrectly as a spiral. When looking more closely, I always find that it's not. The overall effect is a little like looking through the holes in a piece of intricate lace at variously colored, parallel, metallic tubes in the far distance. "This is the central Mandel I talked about, in a very complex environment still needing to be explored." ...about this post's fractal. Here's today's zoom into that previous post's fractal: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This fractal's file is named "ATOMANDE.GIF," which I'm guessing is a 8-letter DOS shortening of "Atomic Mandel." This rendering of the fractal is a generous 1280 x 1024 pixels that allow for close inspection of its features. I still like these images' overall blue tone with red and gold accents.
