i did see quite a lot of cynergic reaction since november, their is no
doubte here that something is growing in the fractal univers.
One of the simpliest chain reaction to observe. It develope cynergic but it
stay polite no violent phenomenon, just little detail who move inside the

FOTD -- February 22, 2012 (Rating 7.5)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's FOTD image takes us into one of the disembodied elephant
trunks in yesterday's image, where I checked for minibrots. The
search did not take long. Within 5 minutes I located the
minibrot at the center of today's image.
This minibrot is unusually well-formed for one in a fractal with
an exponent of 1.5. Actually the minibrot resembles the classic
Mandelbrot set far more closely than its parent fractal, which
is little more than a shapeless blob with a well-defined East
Valley on the X-axis.
I retained the rather pale basic color palette of yesterday's
image, tweaking the colors only when necessary to achieve more
smoothness. (Some bands still show, since total smoothness is
impossible with only 256 colors.)
The rating of a 7-1/2 is high enough to make the 1-3/4 minute
calculation time worth the effort. And as always, the finished
image is available on the web sites.
For the completed image, check the official FOTD web site at:

The day turned out unexpectedly pleasant here at Fractal
Central, with enough sun and a temperature of 57F 14C. The
fractal cats took full advantage of the conditions, and spent
most all afternoon on their window shelf. The humans had
another uneventful day, which is not nearly as boring as it
seems.
The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take
care, and sometimes I wonder whether the trouble with religion
is that so many people believe it or that too few believe it.

FOTD -- February 21, 2001 (Rating 8)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
The valley on the east side of the Z^2 Mandelbrot set is
sometimes called Elephant Valley. The radicals found there
rather convincingly resemble elephants. Every bud has one
elephant standing over it, trunk raised and curled in defiance.
The Z^3 Mandeloid has two elephants guarding every 2-lobed bud
in its Elephant Valley; the Z^4 Mandeloid has three elephants
guarding every 3-lobed bud, etc. The series continues, with the
elephants growing ever more numerous and smaller, always
numbering one less than the exponent of Z. But what happens
when the exponent of Z is reduced?
The same series continues. Today's image shows the elephants,
or what is left of them, in the Elephant Valley of the Z^(1.5)
Mandeloid. We have half an elephant guarding every half-bud.
And it happens to be the front half of the elephants that
remains. The image shows disembodied elephant trunks scattered
everywhere, but not a single whole elephant. With little
thought, I named the image "Scattered Trunks".
The parent Mandeloid is a rather shapeless thing that came about
when I returned to the 'MandelbrotBC2' formula and checked East
Valley of the fractal that results when the expression Z^(1.5)+C
is calculated 1.5 levels up the logarithmic ladder.
Today's scene lies on the south side of the valley, where the
front halves of the elephants remain. (On the north side of the
valley their rear halves remain, but elephant rumps are far less
impressive than elephant trunks, so I chose to check the trunks.)
I rated the image at an 8, mostly for its mathematical interest.
The coloring is a bit flat, though it is smoother than usual and
its flatness does give an atmospheric effect.
The calculation time of 2-3/4 minutes is rather slow by FOTD
standards. This is where the FOTD web sites stampede to the
rescue.

Cloudy skies and a temperature of 42F +6C made today an un-
notable one here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats disliked
the lack of sun, and settled by the house heat early in the
afternoon.
FL and I had a day as uneventful as the weather. Yes, I know it
makes boring reading, but I have to tell it like it is. The
next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care,

coming, just like those 'scare' shows say. The only question is
when.

FOTD -- February 20, 2012 (Rating 7.5)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image takes us into the lowlands, the land of Z^(1.333)
to be exact. We check the area 1333 levels up the complex-
logarithmic hyper-ladder, where we find a distorted Mandeloid
facing southwest. This Mandeloid is easily recognized as a
distorted Mandelbrot set, but its straight main stem, pointing
southsouthwest, has grown to an incredible length, terminating
at a distance around 8 from the origin. Today's image lies well
out on this stem.
I named the image "Filamentary Chaos" because of the zig-zagging
network of filaments all through it. I have not yet checked the
tiny minibrot at the center, and probably never will, since I
doubt that much of interest lies down there.
The rating of a 7-1/2 indicates that I feel the image could have
been improved with some more work, but due to an attack of
laziness, I let it go as is.
The calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes is reasonable; viewing the
finished image on one of the web sites is more reasonable.

The day began with a few clouds here at Fractal Central, but by
noon the clouds vanished, leading to a splendid afternoon of
total sunshine, which brought out the best in the fractal cats.
Nicholas set up shop on the new lamp table, which he has now
made into a cat table, while Cassie curled up on the scratching
post next to Nicholas. FL and I had a typical day. At lunch,
we almost got involved in a discussion about the addictions
plaguing western culture, but common sense ultimately prevailed
and the subject changed to the weather.
The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours; most likely it will
appear as scheduled. Until next time, take care, and don't even
think of trying to list all the addictions afflicting our
'western' society.

FOTD -- February 18, 2012 (Rating 8)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
In most of the fractal calendars I have seen, almost every image
is filled with spirals of various sizes and shapes. I have
never quite understood this fascination with spirals, but there
must nevertheless be something attractive about them, so in
today's image I have featured a spiral.
Not wanting to merely go along with the crowd, I have cast aside
the countless circular spirals that fill almost every fractal
and found a spiral triangle. I found the weird spiral lurking
on the west edge of the extra bay in the East Valley of the
parent fractal of the 'leaves' image that appeared two days ago.
I found no signs of minibrots in this area, but the triangular
stuff I did find, partly obscured as it is by clumps of detached
elephant trunks and spotted with smaller triangles, made an
image worth being declared FOTD. The triangular spiral is a bit
subtle, so the image must be studied before the spiral effect
becomes obvious.
The rating of an 8 is based mostly on the mathematical interest.
As a work of fractal art, the image rates more like a 6-1/2.
The name "Triangulation" is self-explanatory. The calculation
time of 5 minutes borders on unacceptable slowness. To escape
the boring calculation, check the FOTD web sites.

The day began sunny here at Fractal Central, bringing hope of an
afternoon in the sun to the hearts of the fractal cats. But
clouds moved in by midday, dashing their hopes. The temperature
of 50F +10C was mild enough however to blunt the disappointment.
The humans, FL and I, added a bit of interest to the day by
taking an antiquing expedition down to Lemoyne, PA, a city
across the river from Harrisburg, where FL found a new lamp
table. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then,
take care, and every day someone finds another health hazard.
It seems that to end the constant worry about health, we will
need to totally eliminate all disease, aging, accidents and
finally death itself. Then there will be nothing to worry about
but over-population.
