FOTD 31-08-13 (Zexpe of the North [A-6,M-6])

FOTD -- August 31, 2013 (Rating A-6,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image has a curious appearance, which is actually the beginning of definition breakdown. In today's case however, the breakdown produces a soft, rather pleasant fuzzy effect that raises the image's artistic worth to a 6, making it worthy of being declared FOTD for today. The name "Zexpe of the North" points out that the exponent of Z is the number epsilon, and that the scene lies at the northern extremity of the parent fractal. The parent fractal is actually the 'zexpe' fractal, or more accurately, one of the 'zexpe' fractals. Due to the multi- valued nature of the complex logarithmic function, there are an infinity of 'zexpe' fractals. Today's 'zexpe' fractal resulted when I iterated Z^(epsilon) nine levels up the complex hyperladder with no function applied. It is shaped much like the classic 'zexpe' fractal, with two large period-2 buds. There is no X-axis symmetry however, and the northern bud more closely resembles a quadratic bud, with a single nearly straight main spike pointing northwest. Today's scene lies near the tip of this spike. Since there is nothing really outstanding about the image and the breakdown of definition could be considered detrimental as easily as beneficial, I could rate the artistic worth no higher than a 6. The complex-log math trick is so shopworn that I could rate the math value also no higher than a 6. The calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes is fast enough to keep boredom and ultimate disappointment at bay. And the web sites can always remove the wait entirely. FOTD -- August 29, 2013 (Rating A-7,M-7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: What happens when Z to the power of the negative golden ratio is subtracted from Z to the power of the positive square root of two? Why, a twisted Mandelbrot set appears, with debris scattered around it. Today's scene lies just beyond the main spike of a larger minibrot located in this debris, well northeast of the main M-set. The name "Armageddon Out Of Here" seems to continue the doomsday mood of the recent FOTD names. Actually it is what a fellow worker, actually a serious born-again Christian, replied many years ago when I asked him what he would do if the mythical battle of Armageddon actually broke out. The rating of 7 for both the art and math indicates an average quality scene. The calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes is within reason, though a trip to one of the FOTD web sites will make things even more reasonable. FOTD 28-08-13 (Creature of the Abyss [A-7,M-7])

FOTD -- August 28, 2013 (Rating A-7,M-7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image comes to us straight from the abyss. This is why I named it "Creature of the Abyss". The most abysmal thing about the image is that its parent fractal does not exist. Check and see! If the inside is reset to 'numb' the image itself as well as the parent becomes only a blank screen. The negative exponent, Z^(-0.75), assures that no outside stuff will appear in the fractal. But as the FOTD 'evaporated' fractals have often shown, blank inside stuff is sometimes filled with hidden activity, which can be made manifest by the active inside fills. In today's image the 'bof60' fill does the job. There is little to say about the image, which is impossible to describe, and must be seen to be fully appreciated. It appears as a random mixture of smoothly blended broad areas and chaotically scrambled fine detail, with a kind of Mandelbrot bud trying to get started toward the bottom center. Both the art and math ratings are 7's, which are merely average and make the calculation time of six minutes too slow for comfort. Luckily, the web sites are ready to bring relief. FOTD -- August 27, 2013 (Rating A-7,M-8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in the fractal figure that results when 2.5 parts of Z^(-1.05) are mixed with 0.35 part of Z^(-5.05) and (1/C) is added on each iteration. It is half evaporated. The lower right half is evaporated; the upper left half is not, and the difference is striking. The diagonal line through the central minibrot is the front of the evaporation field, which advances from the lower right as the escape radius (imag(p3)) is increased. The name "End of the World" refers to the line of destruction advancing through the image, which has destroyed almost but not quite everything it has already passed. With a rating of an outstanding 8, the math value of today's image exceeds its artistic worth, which rates an everyday 7. The calculation time of 2 minutes will pass fast enough to keep boredom and impatience at bay. The nuisance part may be avoided by checking the finished image at one of the web sites. As you know, if you use logpallette=2, and zoom in, the colors cycle thru the map from beginning to end. If you look at the map for the original FOTD ( a rather good map, I saved it for future use (HOW does he get these?...)) you can see some slow areas and some fast. That's how it happens, I do not "do" it. .

FOTD 26-08-13 (Undersea Scene [A-8,M-7])

FOTD -- August 26, 2013 (Rating A-8,M-7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is evaporated, which means the escape radius has been increased until nothing but trapped 'inside' stuff remains. The blank scene was then rendered with the inside set to 'bof61', bringing to life the apparently dead inside stuff. Something in the resulting image reminds me of an undersea scene, which is what I named it. The parent fractal combines 0.7 part of Z^(-0.5) with 0.1 part of Z^(-5.5), then adds (1/C) on each iteration. The resulting figure resembles an oversized peanut with a larger area of squiggly chaos to its northeast. Today's scene lies in the outer part of this squiggly chaos. Thanks to my extra coloring effort, the artistic rating of the image is a very respectful 8. The evaporated nature of the parent fractal raises the math interest to a not-too-bad 7. The calculation time of 1-3/4 minutes will seem to pass quickly after the top part of the image appears. Those who do not calculate fractals may view the finished image at one of the web sites.
