. I'am frenchy so correct my english if you feel it not good enought. First to everybody, i like to present, I pick up fractint in 1993 attending to college in electronic and informatic. At the time my relation with english was not good enought to read manual so i just explore the matematic environment build in. In 2002 has a new bilingual i start to developpe and explore thru this wonderful mathematic univers. I feel we are like astronomer in a univers of ever expanding geometrie. The discovery are daily and the relation we can make with the natural reality are vaste. Caun is the first of hundred of reaction i end up with thru 10 years of development, it make me think of a Opuntia cactus, I considere it the base of my fractal experiment, it give a expression of mirror duality, who can be translate thru native spirituality has the duality of nature, one aspect fixed and one aspect in movement, one aspect conscious and one aspect incounscious, one good and one bad. FOTD 25-09-11 (Zigging and Zagging-2 [7.5])

FOTD -- September 25, 2011 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is the hinted-at zoom into yesterday's image, to a depth where the central minibrot becomes well-resolved. At this depth the filaments have almost totally degenerated into masses of chaos, though filament signs are still visible. The shape of concentric circles that is formed by the chaos surrounding the minibrot in today's image is typical of the patterns in very deep minibrot basins. I emphasized the chaos in the image by rendering the scene with a random color palette and by not using the logmap feature. The logmap renderings do bring out the remaining filamentary nature of the scene. The name "Zigging and Zagging-2" could also be something like 'Son of Zigging and Zagging' or 'Curse of Zigging and Zagging', but these names are too long to fit into the 18-character limit set aside for the parameter name. The rating of 7-1/2 includes a half-point for the coloring, which is marginally better than yesterday's. Being deeper than yesterday's image, today's is also slower, taking a full 33-1/2 minutes to finish. Do not bother to switch to the passes=g option. In this particular image it is no faster than passes=1. FOTD -- September 26, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's very deep Mandelbrot scene lies on a filament sprouting from a minor period-5 bud on the northwest shore line of the large period-2 bud of the set. I named the image "A Wheel of Numbers" for very good reasons. The elements certainly are in the shape of a wheel, and fractals certainly are made of numbers The rating of an average FOTD 7 might have been higher if I had put more effort into the coloring. But today is tax day, and paying four-digit taxes always makes me irritable, which is a poor mood for creating fine fractal art. The calculation time of 48 minutes is slow, and there is no excuse. They sometimes say that anything worth having is worth waiting for, but this is not always true. Will the much- ballyhooed soon-to-arrive end of the world have been worth the wait when and if it actually arrives? FOTD -- September 24, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: In today's FOTD we return to the depths of the Mandelbrot set, where we check a filament connected to the period-5 bud on the northwest shore line of the main bay. Minibrots lying on filaments are usually surrounded by branching networks of bare sub-filaments. At the depth of today's image however, the bare filaments have blossomed into zigzagging fields of debris. At an even greater depth, the zigzag filaments vanish almost entirely, leaving only the debris, which forms itself into unexpected patterns. I might venture down there in tomorrow's FOTD, or I might not. I have not decided. The name "Zigging and Zagging" refers to the zigzag streams of debris around the edges of the frame. The rating of a 7 is average. If I had put more effort into the coloring, I might have worked the image up to a 7.5 or even an 8. The potential for a higher rating is there. As is true of all very deep images, the calculation time is rather slow. In today's image it is almost 22 minutes, long enough to cause those with busy schedules to become impatient. FOTD -- September 23, 2011 (Rating ?) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image in the Z^2+C Julibrot is a rating puzzle. I have no idea how to rate it. To begin, it's neither a Mandelbrot image nor a Julia image. It's an Oblate image, which means the orientation of the slice is determined by the real(Z) axis and imag(C) axis. The scene is located in Seahorse Valley of the large minibrot on the main spike of the Mandelbrot set. But the actual location is but a small part of the image. I lost track of the amount of rotation, stretching and skewing that went into it. The image shows just two of the bottomless pits and endless spirals that fill the area. All the tiny nodes scattered through the frame are more bottomless pits, and those pits are filled with even tinier pits, to infinity. That's how it goes with fractals. The name "Galactic Collision" came to mind at an early stage of the coloring, when the image consisted of deep blues speckled with tiny dots that resembled stars, and actually did somewhat resemble colliding galaxies. Since then I have totally re-colored the image to the fiery reds that now prevail, though I have the original name. (Perhaps I should have stuck with the original colors.) The slow calculation time of 55 minutes is largely due to the unusually high maxiter of the upper right quadrant of the scene, where some elements have a maxiter of over 200,000. (The purplish band curving around the bottomless pit in the lower left is actually the lowest-iteration part of the entire image.) FOTD 22-09-11 (Wine-Dark Fractal [6.5])

FOTD -- September 22, 2011 (Rating 6.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene that I originally passed by on the way to the 'Primed for Growth' image of 3 days ago, September 19. I return to the area today because I originally saw in it some FOTD potential. The image is located in one of the two East Valleys of a small Mandeloid just west of the main Mandeloid of the parent fractal. I named today's image "Wine-Dark Fractal". The background colors remind me of light passing through a bottle of red wine. The name also creates an ancient Greek atmosphere, and as we know, those classic Greeks were quite big on geometry. The image itself has an overall dark, subdued appearance, with curved strips of brilliantly colored confetti standing out like fireworks in the night sky. The rating of a 6-1/2 could be on the conservative side, but the fact that this is the second expedition into the same fractal area knocks a point off the rating. The calculation time of just under 2 minutes will take the frustration out of the calculation task. FOTD 21-09-11 (Crack in the World [7])

FOTD -- September 21, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is named "Crack in the World", meaning the world of fractals. The name points out that the scene is located very near the negative X-axis of its parent fractal, where everything is broken apart. This parent was created when I calculated the expression Z^(2.01)+C at a level 11 turns up the logarithmic hyper-spiral with the 'floor' function applied. The parent fractal is a distorted Mandelbrot set rotated about 15 degrees clockwise, so that the southern branch of Seahorse Valley intersects the negative X-axis. Today's scene is located near this point of intersection. With its inward-jutting low-iteration elements, the image appears as though it is very near the bailout cut-off point. Actually, it is very near the X-axis, which serves as a cut-off point in the image. The rating of a 7 is perfectly average. The calculation time of 5 minutes is a bit slower than I would have preferred, but still brief enough to make the calculation no more than a minor annoyance. FOTD -- September 20, 2011 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image has claimed to be the best of all time. That's the impression I had when the name "I am the Champion" came to mind. The rating of an 8 is well above average. It's nearly of championship caliber, but then so is the team that loses the championship game. The parent fractal came about when I subtracted 1.1 parts of (1/Z) from 1.1 parts of straight Z then added (1/C) on every iteration. These parameters are pure whimsy; the resulting image is not. The parameters produce a very distorted Mandelbrot set with its incredibly shrunken main bud and spike pointing south and its grossly overblown East Valley on the north side. Today's scene is located in a minor sub-bud on the west shore line of the main bay. (The distortion of the parent fractal may be increased or reduced by tweaking the parameters.) To achieve the final effect, I used a very broad color palette on the outer parts of the image and a random palette on the inner parts. The prominent minibrot at the center lacks total definition. An increase in the maxiter will increase the definition of the minibrot but will also spoil the coloring. The calculation time of 4-1/3 minutes is slightly slow, but at least in my opinion, the image is worth it.
