Can't get it to work

I was using Fractint back in the late 80's. I Just tried to D/L a windows 7 version and unpacked it. I cant find a working exe file. I just get an error message saying it cannot open the file. It tells me it won't work in a 64bit environment. Help Dean

FOTD -- May 03, 2011 (Rating 9) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I was recently surprised when Brian found a minibrot in a scene that I had assumed and stated held no minibrots. As is so often the case in the world of fractals, things are not always as they seem. Knowing that minibrots were in the scene even though the (apparently flawed) 'fmod' method had indicated they were not, I made an old-fashioned search by locating areas of 2-way symmetry and zooming into the center. The old-fashioned way soon led to today's minibrot and image. I named the image "Most Unexpected", not because the minibrot was unexpected, but because the round-cornered square is unlike anything I have perviously stumbled upon in a fractal image. The image was given extra excitement by rendering it with the outside set to 'tdis'. When I found an acceptable color palette, the final result rated a lofty 9. Part of the rating expresses my pleasure at finding that there are more minibrots in fractals than I had previously assumed. Of course, since I have always assumed the number of minibrots is infinite, it is hard to explain how that number can be increased. (Almost anything done to infinity equals only more infinity.) FOTD -- September 03, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows a minibrot in the center of the nuclear blast that made yesterday's FOTD image a blast. Apparently, conditions at the center of nuclear explosions are so extreme that not even the laws of mathematics can survive undamaged. Check today's minibrot for a sample of mathematical damage. The minibrot in today's image is of order 2.000001, which means it should be barely distinguishable from an everyday quadratic minibrot, but today's minibrot looks nothing at all like a normal minibrot. It appears to be eroded and moth-eaten, most likely from the intense heat of nuclear fission. The same scrambled confusion exists in the surroundings, which appear to be trying to reach the usual 4,8,16... series, but are falling apart before getting there. It's a good thing the minibrot is about at the limit of resolution. Who knows what might lie deeper in its basin of attraction. The rating of a 7 is about average for FOTD images. The name "Outcome Infinite" means not quite as much as it implies. The calculation time of just under 7 minutes is slow by conventional math standards. Thank goodness for the web sites. We check the fractal 'star' of a period-5 sub-bud on the northwest shore line of the largest bud of the largest minibrot on the main spike of the Mandelbrot set. The 10^(15) magnitude of the image is just beyond the limit of conventional math, yet the image requires over 65 minutes to calculate. I have calculated images in the 10^(75) range that finish in 1/4 the time of today's image. Most of the impact of the image is due to the coloring, and most of the coloring is due to the Fractint program, not the fastest but arguably still the best. The image is located in the area of this intersection, where things always go a bit goofy. I named the image "Jewel of the Deep" when the bright patches reminded me of something like pearls lying on the sea floor. Yes, I know pearls don't just lie on the sea floor, waiting to be picked up. They are formed in oysters. The rating of a 7 is getting to be a habit, but who can complain about an image a full 2 points above average. FOTD 29-09-11 (Squarely Rooted [7.5])

FOTD -- September 29, 2011 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is named "Squarely Rooted". This is because the image was generated by the expression Z^(sqrt(2))+C calculated 14 turns up the complex logarithmic hyperspiral with the 'recip' function applied. The parent fractal is a Mandeloid with a teardrop-shaped main bay, rotated so that its main bud faces southeast. It has only one period-3 bud, but the usual higher order buds. The scene of today's image is in a field of debris located where the second period-3 bud might normally be expected to lie. The rating of a 7-1/2 includes the standard 1/2-point bonus for my color work. The image itself is merely average. To achieve the flat-background effect, I rendered the scene with the logmap set to an artificially high 67. The shape of the minibrot at the center mirrors the shape of its parent, which is a quite common thing in fractals with exponents of Z between 1 and 2, where the parent fractals can assume most any shape they wish, especially when calculated with alternate values of the logarithm. The calculation time of 32 seconds is blessedly brief, so why not run the included parameter file and see what you might have missed. FOTD -- September 27, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene in the parent fractal that results when the expression Z^(1.99)+C is iterated at ground level with the 'recip' function applied. This parent resembles a Mandelbrot set rotated about 15 degrees CCW so that the negative X-axis cuts through the northwest shore line of the large period-2 bud. The image is located in the area of this intersection, where things always go a bit goofy. I named the image "Jewel of the Deep" when the bright patches reminded me of something like pearls lying on the sea floor. Yes, I know pearls don't just lie on the sea floor, waiting to be picked up. They are formed in oysters. The rating of a 7 is getting to be a habit, but who can complain about an image a full 2 points above average. The calculation time of 2-2/3 minutes is a fair price for an image with a rating of a 7. The fractal sump pump did its job however. The temperature of 73F 23C was agreeable enough, at least for the fractal cats.
