Can't get it to work

I was using Fractint back in the late 80's. I Just tried to D/L a windows 7 version and unpacked it. I cant find a working exe file. I just get an error message saying it cannot open the file. It tells me it won't work in a 64bit environment. Help Dean

FOTD -- May 03, 2011 (Rating 9) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I was recently surprised when Brian found a minibrot in a scene that I had assumed and stated held no minibrots. As is so often the case in the world of fractals, things are not always as they seem. Knowing that minibrots were in the scene even though the (apparently flawed) 'fmod' method had indicated they were not, I made an old-fashioned search by locating areas of 2-way symmetry and zooming into the center. The old-fashioned way soon led to today's minibrot and image. I named the image "Most Unexpected", not because the minibrot was unexpected, but because the round-cornered square is unlike anything I have perviously stumbled upon in a fractal image. The image was given extra excitement by rendering it with the outside set to 'tdis'. When I found an acceptable color palette, the final result rated a lofty 9. Part of the rating expresses my pleasure at finding that there are more minibrots in fractals than I had previously assumed. Of course, since I have always assumed the number of minibrots is infinite, it is hard to explain how that number can be increased. (Almost anything done to infinity equals only more infinity.) FOTD 31-05-11 (Cave of the Ancients [7])

FOTD -- May 31, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I was surprised when yesterday's exponent of 1.009 actually produced a fractal; I was astounded when today's exponent of 1.0009 produced one also. In this range, all parent fractals are roughly egg-shaped, so I searched for parents with slight irregularities on their edges. In today's case, the parent fractal created by calculating the formula 8.98 levels doen the complex log ladder with the 'recip' function applied showed such an irregular area. When I zoomed into this area, I found today's scene. To me at least, the image resembles a view from deep in a cave, looking out toward a brilliant sky. When I switched on my thought processes, the name "Cave of the Ancients" soon came to mind. This name sounds as though some deep mystical truth lies in the depths of the image. Actually, nothing is implied but the near-mystical behavior of complex numbers. The basic color palette is a repeat of the black-and-white one from yesterday's image, though in today's scene I did tweak the colors a bit. The rating of an everyday 7 remains unchanged however. FOTD -- May 30, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today we enter "Uncharted Territory", which is what I named the image. Never before have I checked a fractal with an exponent as close to unity as 1.009, making today's image uncharted for sure. The graph of Z^1.009 is virtually a straight line, so how is it possible that a fractal as rich and varied as today's could come about? The answer is the multi-valued nature of the complex logarithm. The complex log is multi-valued. This means that it has many, in fact an infinity of values, and all of them are 'correct'. When applied to fractals with fractional exponents, these different values create different fractals, all of which are correct. But curiously, when applied to exponents very close to unity, as is today's, these different values create some unexpectedly rich images, in effect turning a 'sow's ear' into a 'silk purse'. Today's image lies in one of these 'silk-purse' fractals. The parent fractal is an apparently featureless ellipse, but a close examination reveals a tiny bit of chaos on the southeast shore line. Today's image lies in this chaos. I used the built-in black-and-white color palette to create the 3-D effect. Other palettes might have worked better, but an attack of terminal laziness prevented me from trying to find one. This laziness held the rating to an everyday 7. FOTD 29-05-11 (Least Likely Spiral [No Rating])

FOTD -- May 29, 2011 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is another super-quickie. I got lazy. Even the most ardent fractalists sometimes feel lazy when the weather is warm. To produce today's image I started with yesterday's mallard duck and gave him his proper plumage by rendering the fractal with the inside set to 'zmag'. (In my haste, I forgot to give the poor bird his plumage in yesterday's image.) Apparently, I also forgot to give him a bill. (A duck would have a hard time dabbling for food without its bill.) Today, feeling sorry for the bill-less bird, I went to the spot where the bill should have been attached, but nothing I tried came anywhere close to adding a workable duckbill. Finally, in frustration, I checked a small area of debris in the vicinity. After a brief search of the debris field, I found no bill, but the broken spiral that appears as today's image was enough for an FOTD. There is not much I might say about the image, which is best left to quack for itself. I gave the image no rating, though a rating of something like a 5-1/2 seems appropriate. The name "Least Likely Spiral" reflects the disconnected nature of the spiral, which I assume is endless. To see the image, set up and run the included parameter file. FOTD -- May 28, 2011 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Due to an unexpectedly busy day on Friday, today's image is a quick and simple one, and the discussion is just as simple. The image is named "The Golden Mallard". On the surface it does resemble a duck floating serenely on an invisible body of water. (A lake transform might have been helpful in creating the water effect.) Actually, the image is the parent fractal that is created when the formula Z^(1.05)+C is iterated 10-1/2 levels up the complex logarithmic hyperspiral with the 'recip' function applied. (This function seems to work best with this formula, though I doubt that it is the most accurate.) The calculation time of 41 seconds will pass quicker than a car at the Daytona Speedway. But before this speed can be apprecia- ted, the included parameter file must be set up and run.
