Can't get it to work

I was using Fractint back in the late 80's. I Just tried to D/L a windows 7 version and unpacked it. I cant find a working exe file. I just get an error message saying it cannot open the file. It tells me it won't work in a 64bit environment. Help Dean

FOTD -- May 03, 2011 (Rating 9) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I was recently surprised when Brian found a minibrot in a scene that I had assumed and stated held no minibrots. As is so often the case in the world of fractals, things are not always as they seem. Knowing that minibrots were in the scene even though the (apparently flawed) 'fmod' method had indicated they were not, I made an old-fashioned search by locating areas of 2-way symmetry and zooming into the center. The old-fashioned way soon led to today's minibrot and image. I named the image "Most Unexpected", not because the minibrot was unexpected, but because the round-cornered square is unlike anything I have perviously stumbled upon in a fractal image. The image was given extra excitement by rendering it with the outside set to 'tdis'. When I found an acceptable color palette, the final result rated a lofty 9. Part of the rating expresses my pleasure at finding that there are more minibrots in fractals than I had previously assumed. Of course, since I have always assumed the number of minibrots is infinite, it is hard to explain how that number can be increased. (Almost anything done to infinity equals only more infinity.) FOTD -- November 30, 2011 (Rating 8.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today is the last day of November, and we end the month with an image that rates a full 8-1/2. The image lies in the parent fractal that results when negative Z and (1/Z) are combined and straight C is added on every iteration. This parent fractal is little more than a cut-off hyperbola with its open end facing north and Mandelbrot buds along its edges. Today's scene is located in some curious debris just inland of the southernmost part of the hyperbolic main bay, which appears to be an East Valley. (To see a surprising cousin of today's scene, change the signs of the real and imag parts of the p1 and p2 parameters, and change the sign of the Y center coordinate. The resulting image has a different orientation as well as a similar yet somewhat different coloring.) The unusually high rating of an 8.5 is due to the extra effort I put into the coloring. I was actually considering a rating of a 9, but finally decided that the image too closely resembles yesterday's for such a rating. The name "Nothing is Something" came about when I started thinking of empty space, which modern physicists tell us is anything but empty. Fractint bell wake me up a few time last week, i was sleepy and i did'nt find anything nice to look at. At these moment i close my computer speake with meme and wonder this past full of clown thing and gracious moment.. Who is meme?, in french it mean two thing, grand mother and the same thing, in english it can be seen like me twice.. you see like me, who is meme in my clown book of mathematic, meme is a colour full fluorescent alien galactic hand, meme is not necessarly a male or a femal, meme is changing all the time...meme is fun to dream with and she/he emmit fractint bell while moving to the next terminal, so when i wake up with the bell i always wonder if my cosmic comic will bekon thru... Rowinthe cosmic canoe is another of those fractal who ressemble to usual life object i like hem a lot, altought i really love the strange one or the mymerical one, anyway i,am a mix I had a mandelbrot comming thru formulae last night for the first time in a long periode, and angular +-200 degree, i wonder this beaute, thinking since a long time, that mandelbrot had more relation in philosophie than in mathematic...for human anyway ... What is the thru version, my casio computer got one, c got one, bbc basic got another and so, i guess i<am too lasy analysing the code they seem to be different, actually they are. FOTD -- November 29, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's curious image was created by a very simple iterated expression -- Z+(1/Z)+(1/C). This unlikely combination creates a parent fractal that consists of a Mandeloid rotated 180 degrees, with its main bay so enlarged that it has reached infinite size. Instead of the expected heart shape, the main bay has expanded into a hyperbolic shape. Luckily however, most of the hyperbola is cut off by lower iteration stuff, so a screen of infinite size is not needed to display it. Today's scene, consisting of very slow, very high iteration stuff, lies near the point where the north shore line of the main-bay hyperbola is cut off. The rating of a 7 seems about right. If I had had a bit more time to tweak the colors, I might have raised the rating to a 7.5 or even an 8. The big drawback with a high-iteration image is the calculation time, which in today's case is a dragging 38 minutes. This will definitely bring impatience to most fractalists. The name "Time is on Our Side" refers to the unusually long time required for the image calculation to be finished. FOTD 26-11-11 (Sing Like a Canary [4])

FOTD -- November 26, 2011 (Rating 4) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: A not-totally-unexpected shopping spree erupted Saturday here at FC, which left little time for a proper fractal search. All is not lost however, for I found today's image, which is nowhere near the best of all time, but is not the worst either. The image is the third venture into the same parent fractal, this time into the southern shore of the valley on the west side of the main bay. The nature of this valley is unclear, though it impresses me as an 'east valley' type of thing. The effect of overlapping bubbles was created by rendering the scene with the outside set to 'fmod'. At the moment I forget exactly what 'fmod' stands for, but whatever it is, it sometimes creates interesting images. The rating of a 4 could have been several points higher if the hastily-found canary-yellow background had not been so ridicu- lously intense. This over-intense background is the inspiration for the name "Sing Like a Canary". The calculation time of 40 seconds is near the speed of light, and will cause no impatience even for those with the shortest attention spans. FOTD -- November 28, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Due to the seasonal rush here at Fractal Central, today's discussion will be a brief one. Today's image is the 4th and final scene in the same parent fractal. It is located on the western shore line of the main bay of the parent, just north of the pseudo-East Valley. I rated the image at a 7, a good part of which is due to the coloring. When I thought of the name "Flight of Numbers" I was thinking of how the entire image is made of numbers. Then my thoughts turned to how the quantum realm is little more than the math that describes it. And finally, since an object must share the qualities of its building blocks, I considered how the 'real' world might very well be made of numbers also. The listed calculation time of 2-1/2 minutes is a guestimate of the time the image would take to finish on the 2000mhz machine. It actually took just under 10 minutes on the 200mhz machine. (BTW, the 2000mhz unit still does not work, but it is coming up with some rather strange ever-changing messages before it shuts down. I'll send some of them in a day or two, but I suspect that the 'C' drive disk might be scrambled in addition to the other problems.) Today brought more clouds than sun and an even milder temperature of 64F 18C. The fractal cats took things as they happened. The only excitement took place this morning, when a tough beat-up old tomcat passed through the back yard, spraying as he went. Nicholas wanted to go out and show the cat who's boss; Cassie found the tough old cat interesting. FL, who is just getting into the holiday mode, spent yesterday preparing for the events. I spent the day counting the days until the holidays are over. The next FOTD will almost certainly be posted in 24 hours. The result was better than all i could see up to now. calm and limitless, the complexe image get simplify thru the dream until i woke up with a simple pentagone in memory.
