Here are a couple of updates since Friday that I didn’t include in the letter. BYU is an 11 point favorite over Nevada this coming Saturday night.

Friday night you can get your first look at the BYU basketball team. As they say in the media when giving out gambling lines for games, this exhibition is definitely for “entertainment purposes only”.

BYUtv is calling it Boom Shakalaka and will feature three point shooting and dunk contests. It won’t tell you a thing about how this team will fare, but it will give you a good idea of the athleticism of Corbin Kaufusi and the shooting abilities of Chase Fischer and Jake Toolson.

The BYU women’s team will also participate. This made for TV deal starts at 7 pm Mountain time and will be televised live on BYUtv and BYUtvsports.com.

Since the loss to UCF last week, there has been plenty of chats about offensive coordinators, including the one at BYU. There is no current opening for the position, nor do I expect one any time soon.

If and when the job comes open, here is a name that is available. Mike Martz. Thanks to an astute subscriber for sending me this link and the suggestion that Martz, who is 63 and currently retired, would light it up for BYU. Think Doug Scovil in his BYU heyday.

I also have a friend that was a high school classmate of Martz in San Diego many years ago.

Anyway, I found the reading very interesting and think you will also. The salient sentence I took from the story was the quote by Bill Belichick who said that when all is said and done, it is all about talent. Taysom Hill, in my opinion, proved that point.

Happy reading. Click here for the article.
