Benefit for University of Utah Guest Writers Series
August 27th: Fundraiser for the Guest Writers Series at the University of Utah The Creative Writing Program at the University of Utah presents its first (and, heaven willing, last) creative writing fundraiser to help support its very financially ailing Guest Writers Series. This is the series that brings in all those wonderful poets and writers to Salt Lake for everyone to enjoy. It also benefits the Salt Lake Community by reaching out with these writers to high school students across the valley. And now, with the current state of affairs, it may be seriously curtailed. Just to let you know who could be coming this year here's the line-up: Peter Gizzi, Karen Volkman, Percival Everett, Michael Cunningham, Brenda Shaughnessy, Antonya Nelson, Carole Maso, Steve Tomasula, Elyse Patridge. Please come to our event, and please pass on the following information to everyone you can. It should be a fun event, and every little bit counts. The Event The Writing's on the Wall: The University of Utah Creative Writing Program’s First Annual Fundraising Reading The Pickle Company 741 South 400 West Salt Lake City, UT 7-10 p.m. $10 for adults, $5 for students with I.D. Please join us Thursday, August 27th at the Pickle Company for an exciting evening of Incredibly Short Yet Fabulous Readings by Melanie Rae Thon, Jacqueline Osherow, Karen Brennan, Francois Camoin, Lance Olsen, Paisley Rekdal, some of our recent graduate students, and Utah’s Poet Laureate, Katherine Coles. Free food and wine, a cash bar, silent auction, and a special performance by the Antique Book Road Show will top off the evening’s many entertainments. Bring by one of your most prized books to see what the Antique Book Road Show thinks it’s worth. Your entry ticket qualifies you for a special raffle prize. Come and revel with us as we raise money for our program’s free community reading series!
