Seven Poems and Seven Paintings Seven Poems and Seven Paintings, a collaboration between Utah poet Joel Long and landscape artist Dave Hall, will open Friday, March 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Rowland Hall Upper School library, 843 Lincoln Street in Salt Lake City. Utah Poet Laureate Katharine Coles will introduce Long, who will read from a selection of work based on Hall’s paintings and featured in his new book Knowing Time By Light. “Joel Long's poems exist equally in the body and mind, full of observation and sensuous detail…” says Coles, a professor at The University of Utah and Poet Laureate since 2006. Long’s poetry has appeared in numerous anthologies, and his book Winged Insects won the White Pine Press Poetry Prize. He received the 2009 Mayor’s Artist Award for Literary Arts. Hall’s tonalist landscapes hang locally at Phillips Gallery in Salt Lake and Meyer Gallery in Park City. The poet and artist have roots in the Missouri River country of southwest Montana – an area that has inspired both. After the March 12 opening at Rowland Hall, Seven Poems and Seven Paintings will open on March 19 in conjunction with Phillips Gallery for a month-long stay at Evolutionary HealthCare, 461 East 200 South, in Salt Lake. Dave Hall’s painting The Slow Slope of Land, one of the landscapes at Seven Poems and Seven Paintings.
