City Art will host the launch of Poet Laureate Katharine Coles’ project “Bite Size Poems” featuring readings from several prominent Utah poets who are featured in the project. The reading will be held at the Salt Lake Public Library at 7:00 P.M. on May 20th. Featured poets include: Alex Caldiero Rob Carney Joel Long Jean Howard Sue Howe Kimberley Johnson Chris Cokinos Michael Sowder Craig Dworkin Utah’s current Poet Laureate, Dr. Katharine Coles, proposed the “Bite Size Poems Project for Utah. The idea is to feature a Poem of the Month, written for the project by a Utah poet. This Poem of the Month will be distributed throughout the state through as many media as possible. Each of these poems will be short (Bite Size) and take no longer than 60 seconds to read aloud. Video and audio recording will be available at NowPlayingUtah.com, as well print versions in emails. The poems may also be placed as newspaper and magazine ads. The digital version of the Poem of the Month will be sent out as radio and television Public Service Announcements, email alerts, podcasts, web links, etc. Each month features a new poem and a new Utah poet, and at the end of 18 months, a set of the poems will be made available in print as well as in digital format. The event is free and open to the public. City Art is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Zoo, Arts, and Parks, XMission, and audience donations. The featured reading will be followed by an open reading.
