City Art Presents Katharine Coles, Bill Coles, and Joan Coles

Katharine Coles, Bill Coles, and Joan Coles will read from their works Wednesday April 15h at the Salt Lake Public Library at 7:00 P.M. in the fourth floor conference room.
 
Katharine Coles’ fifth poetry collection, The Earth Is Not Flat (Red Hen 2013), was written under the auspices of the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Artists and Writers Program; ten poems from the book, translated into German by Klaus Martens, appeared in the summer 2014 issue of the journal Matrix; she is currently being translated into Spanish.  Her sixth collection, Flight, is due out in 2016.  A professor at the University of Utah, she served from 2006 to 2012 as Utah Poet Laureate and in 2009 and 2010 as the inaugural director of the Poetry Foundation’s Harriet Monroe Poetry Institute.  She has received grants and awards from the NEA, the NEH and the Guggenheim Foundation. 
 
Bill Coles is a long-time professor of Mathematics at the University of Utah.  His prose has appeared in Catalyst among other publications.  He has worked for years with Writers@Work from which he receive the Advocate Award in 2004.
 
Joan Coles has published poetry in Tailwinds, Weber Studies, and City Art Journal. She retired as a clinical psychologist at Valley Mental Health Center.  For many years, she has served on the board of Writers@Work where she also received the Advocate Award in 2004. 
 
Most featured readings are followed by an open reading.
 
The event is free and open to the public.  City Art is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Zoo, Arts, and Parks, X-mission, and audience donations.
