Writers Hector Ahumada and Brian Staker will read from their works on Wednesday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Public Library as part of the City Art Reading Series. This event is free and open to the public.


Hector Ahumada, born in Santiago, Chile. Naturalized USA citizen. Salt Lake City, Mayor's Award, Literary Arts, 1996. Writers @ Work, Lifetime Achievement, Literary Arts, 2008. Some of his published writings include: Great and Peculiar Beauty, Utah Writers Anthology, Gibb Smith publisher, Utah, 1995. Sun and Water Poems, Luna's Press, San Francisco, 2003. Highland Travelers, Elik Press, Salt Lake City, 2003. Earth and Air Poems, Elik Press, Salt Lake City, 2008.



Brian Staker was awarded an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Utah in 1993. He has had poetry appear in numerous literary publications, including Western Humanities Review and Otis Nebula. He has written art and music reviews for City Weekly, SLUG Magazine, Blurt Magazine and others. He creates the occasional podcast The Awkward Hour, and has presented two Awkwardfests featuring local musicians, comedians and artists. He is the author of two self-published novels: Cough and Already In Progress. Last year he collaborated in the performance piece DiSPLACEment at Wellers Books with English professor/poet Alex Caldiero. Staker lives in Salt Lake City with artist, Julie Dunker, and their son Jasper.



Most featured readings are followed by an open reading.

 

The event is free and open to the public.  City Art is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Zoo, Arts, and Parks, X-mission, and audience donations.
