Writer Scott Carrier and poet Katharine January will read from their works at the Salt Lake Public Library Main Branch on Wednesday February 2nd at 7:00 as part of the City Art Reading Series. Scott Carrier is an independent radio producer and writer who lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. His radio stories have been broadcast on All Things Considered, This American Life, and The Savvy Traveler. His print stories have been published in Harper’s, Esquire, and Rolling Stone. A collection of his stories, Running After Antelope, will be published in March of 2001 by Counterpoint. Katherine January was born in New Mexico and grew up on a dairy farm in Northern Vermont. She put in academic time at Tufts University, the University of Vermont, and Georgia State University. She farms and writes in Bountiful, Utah where she lives with her good husband Michael and her bad dog Charley. In her spare time she works as a psychologist in a healthcare setting. She recently finished a children’s story, The Curmudgeon Under the Stairs, and is at work on a second volume of poetry. Poems have previously appeared in The Shenandoah Valley Writers’ Guild Showcase and The Potomac Guardian. The Blue Giraffe is her first full-length collection. The event is free and open to the public. City Art is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Zoo, Arts, and Parks, X-Mission, and audience donations.
