Poets Esther Lee and Gary Jackson will read from their works for the City Art Reading Series on May 11th at 7:00 P.M. at the Salt Lake City Library’s Main Branch. . Esther Lee received her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Indiana University and served as Editor-in-Chief for Indiana Review. Her writing has appeared in Ploughshares, Verse Daily, Salt Hill, and elsewhere. She’s been awarded the Elinor Benedict Poetry Prize and 2009 Utah Writer’s Contest Award; twice nominated for a Pushcart Prize, as well as nominated for a Ruth Lilly Fellowship. Her chapbook, Blank Missives, was published by Trafficker Press and her first poetry collection, Spit, was selected for the Elixir Press Poetry Award. A former Kundiman fellow, she is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Creative Writing at the University of Utah. Gary Jackson is the winner of the 2009 Cave Canem Poetry Prize for his first book Missing You, Metropolis, selected by Yusef Komunyakaa. He was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, and received his Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from the University of New Mexico in 2008. His poems have appeared in The Laurel Review, Blue Mesa Review, Iron Horse Literary Review, Literary Bohemian, Inscape, Magma, and he has been nominated for a 2010 Pushcart Prize. He has been a fierce lover of comics for nearly twenty years. The event is free and open to the public. City Art is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Zoo, Arts, and Parks, X-Mission, and audience donations. The featured reading will be followed by an open reading.
