Writers Janine Joseph and Eric Howerton willread from their works on Wednesday, September 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the Salt LakeCity Public Library as part of the City Art Reading Series and the UtahHumanities Council Book Festival. This event is free and open to the public. Janine Joseph is the author of Driving Withouta License (Alice James Books, 2016), winner of the Kundiman Poetry Prize.Her work has appeared in or is forthcoming from Best American ExperimentalWriting, Kenyon Review Online, Hyphen, Best New Poets,Zócalo Public Square, and elsewhere. Her commissioned work for theHouston Grand Opera (HGOco) stage includes a libretto, From My Mother's Mother,and a song cycle, "On This Muddy Water": Voices from the Houston ShipChannel. She holds an MFA from New York University and a Ph.D. from theUniversity of Houston. Janine lives in Ogden, UT, where she is an AssistantProfessor of English at Weber State University. Eric Howerton is a graduate of the University ofHouston’s Ph.D. in Creative Writing Program, an avid skiier, and vocalist forCrisis in Consciousness, a loud-music project based in Salt Lake City. Heteaches English at Weber State University, is a Vice President and Board Memberfor Writers@Work, and is a former fiction editor for Gulf Coast. His work hasappeared in Juked, The VOLTA blog, PANK online, The Masters Review, NightTrain, Driftwood Press, and others. His novel—RedRedRedRed—received anhonorable mention from the Utah Division of Arts & Humanities 2014 OriginalWriting Competition and, after a few more edits, will be on shelves sooner thanyou think.City Art is Salt Lake’s longest-running reading series and provides a uniqueforum for the literary arts during their weekly programs on each of the firstthree Wednesdays of the month from September to May at the Salt Lake CityPublic Library.
