City Art Reading Series is pleased to present a reading and book signing with Colorado poets Matthew Cooperman, author of Still: of the Earth as the Ark which Does Not Move, and Aby Kaupang Cooperman, author of Absence is such a Transparent House, on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the Main Public Library (210 East 400 South). This event is free and open to the public. This is our first featured reading of the new year so please join us to ring in the 22nd year of our reading series with these wonderful poets. Matthew Cooperman is the author of Still: of the Earth as the Ark which Does Not Move (Counterpath Press, 2011), DaZE (Salt Publishing Ltd, 2006) and A Sacrificial Zinc (Pleiades/LSU, 2001), winner of the Lena-Miles Wever Todd Prize, as well as three chapbooks, Still: (to be) Perpetual (dove | tail, 2007), Words About James (phylum press, 2005) and Surge (Kent State University Press, 1999). A founding editor of Quarter After Eight, and poetry editor of Colorado Review, he teaches at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where he lives with the poet Aby Kaupang and his two children. Aby Kaupang is the author of Absence is such a Transparent House (Tebot Bach, 2011) and Scenic Fences | Houses Innumerable (Scantily Clad Press, 2009). Her poems have appeared in VOLT, Verse, Denver Quarterly, The Laurel Review, Parthenon West, Aufgabe, 14 Hills, Interim, Caketrain, lo-ball and others. She received her MFA in Creative Writing and is now slogging through her MS in Occupational Therapy. We present authors of all genres as well as artists and musicians on the first three Wednesdays of each month at the Main Public Library from September to May. Sincerely, Gail Join The City Library and the Rumi Poetry Club for an afternoon of poetry, music, paintings, and spiritual reflection to celebrate the heritage of Rumi, the Persian master poet and mystic philosopher who lived in the 13th century but whose words and vision still enrich human hearts. Rumi, who was born on September 30, 1207, believed passionately in the use of music, poetry, and dance as a path of spiritual awakening and for expressing the divine within us. Art represents a mystical journey of spiritual ascent through mind and love to the Perfect One. In this journey, the seeker turns towards the truth, transcends the egoistic attachments, matures through love, and arrives at real joy and peace. The seeker then returns from this spiritual journey, with greater humility, compassion, and wisdom of life to love and to be of service to the whole of creation without discrimination with regard to beliefs, races, classes, and nations. In this spirt we ask you to join us for an afternoon of contemplations on Rumi's beautiful poems, along with music and paintings. You have a heart as vast as a sea. For Immediate Release Contact: City Art Director Joel Long: joeltlong(a)yahoo.com City Art Meltdown—15-20 of Utah’s Best Writers Read Salt Lake Public Library Main Branch 210 East 400 South Salt Lake City UT 84111 Wednesday September 7th 7:00—9:00 P.M. City Art will present its annual meltdown on Wednesday, September 7th at 7:00 P.M. at the Salt Lake Public Library Main Branch. The meltdown includes the top vote-getters among Utah writers and so offers fifteen to twenty of the best literary figures of the state reading for five minutes each. It traditionally begins the City Art Reading series, which meets the first three Wednesdays of every month from September through June.Check the marquee up front, but we should be in the fourth floor conference room most of the year. This year’s event will again feature some of Utah’s favorite writers as voted for by the audience of City Art including the following: Timothy O’Keefe, Rebecca Lindenberg, Kimberly Johnson, Sandy Anderson, Melanie Rae Thon, Lynn Kilpatrick, Melissa Bond, Jacqueline Osherow, Shanan Ballam, Lance Larsen, Natasha Saje, Michael Sowder, Jennifer Tonge, Michael McLane, Sandy Anderson, Joel Long, and Rob Carney.
