City Art will host its annual holiday open reading on December 20th at 7:00
P,M. at the Salt Lake Public Library Main Branch. Readers are invited to bring
holiday cheer, poems, and prose and read for five minutes to other happy
literature lovers. We hope to see you there for this yearly sharing of work
and inspiration.
City Art is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake City Arts
Council, Zoo, Arts, and Parks, and audience donations. The reading will be
followed by an open mic reading.

Poet Hector Ahumada will read from his poetry along with a performance by
musicians/ story tellers Maryam & Jose Bonilla and Royal Heritage on
Wednesday, December 13th at 7:00 P,M. at the Salt Lake Public Library as part
of the City Art Reading Series.
Hector Ahumada is the recipient of Salt Lake City, Mayor's Literary Award in
Literature, 1996. He is the author of Sun and Water Poems/Poemas de Sol y
Agua, Lunas' Press, San Francisco, 2003. The Highland Travelers/Los Viajeros
del Altiplano, Elik Press, Salt Lake City, 2003.

Jeff Metcalf and Elizabeth Coleman will read from their works at the Salt Lake
Public Library at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 6th.
Jeff Metcalf recently retired from teaching Âat risk high school students for
the past 30 years. The recipient of the Hunstman Award for Excellence in
Education, the National Council for Teachers of English Outstanding teacher
Award, the Writers at Work Lifetime Achievement Award and a Fulbright Memorial
Scholarship, Metcalf is now an Associate Professor of English at the
University of Utah. His play ÂThree Comedians in Purgatory was performed in
Nice, France and recently, his play ÂWhere To? was performed as part of
Cabbies, Cowboys, and the Tree of the Weeping Virgin was performed during the
Winter Olympics by the Salt Lake Acting Company. Elik press published the
chapbook The Last Steelhead.
Elizabeth Coleman is a local writer completing a degree in Creative Writing at
the University of Utah. Elizabeth works at the SLCC Community Writing Center
where she directs the DiverseCity Writing Series. She most enjoys conducting
youth writing workshops and has done so for UpNet, KRCL/SpyHop and Writers at
Work. Predominantly, Elizabeth writes poetry, prose, and essay.
The event is free and open to the public.
