Based on requests from customers, we have begun work on adding 34X fields to records as part of our RDA enrichment options. For now, we are mainly concentrating on 344, 345, 346, and 347 fields. We are primarily looking for the data to populate/generate these 34X fields from the 300 field and 538 field. The 500 field is a catch-all field and has been used for almost everything over the years, which means it can be useful but also means that it may not be as reliable as desired in every case. We are currently debating whether it makes sense to also include 500 fields when adding information to the 34X fields. Karen Anderson put forth the research to develop our GMD to CMC rules (of which, there are over 1000 rules at this point). We are finding, however, that the 34X fields do not fit as neatly as desired in our general mapping workflows, so these are proving to be a bit more problematic to add.
