Dear Ted and all, The 667 note was part of the Phase 2 conversion of the NAF to RDA. I believe the note was added to most, if not all, uniform titles. The reason for the note is that the record could not be upgraded to RDA by machine. The idea is that the next person who needs that heading for a resource should update the authority record to RDA. This doesn’t necessarily mean changing the heading – it might be perfectly fine under RDA as is – but the idea is to evaluate the heading before using it. But if you can’t do the authority work, then you can decide to go ahead and ignore the note and use the heading as is. You just need to understand that the heading may be changed in the future when someone does redo the record as RDA. The list I have comes from an III blind headings report and is all uniform titles. I imagine there are other types of authorities with the same message. My question is: Should I ignore this 667 message and change headings in bib records to match the authority? Ted Ted Waller Carlyle Campbell Library Meredith College 919 760 8381
