Eva, Back in 2021 we created a local set of authority records to help our libraries that want to, move away from LC's "Indians" and "Indians of" to either "Indigenous peoples" and "Indigenous peoples of". Basically, the issue at hand is that LC has an authority record for "Indigenous peoples", which is a broadly sweeping authority record and with which my local authority record now conflicts. Because there is now conflict, we realize we need to qualify that with a $z of some sort so it's not confused with the broader LC authority record. We're just trying to get a sense if our clients would refer us to use "$z America" or "$z Western Hemisphere". Where possible, if there's an LC authority record for something like "Indigenous women" which is the same term we use for LC's "Indian women" we can likely delineate what it should be from the authority record itself and can qualify it as appropriate. Does that help? We discussed this at our authority committee meeting this week, and decided we would need more information how this relates to Indians or Indigenous people. , before answering the survey question. Is there more context? I am CC-ing our committee chair as well as our resident NACO/policy/rules expert to jump in and weigh in. Either of them can answer the question with more information provided. I'm currently working on updating our local Indigenous peoples authority file to make some of the structure more consistent and to differentiate some terms. There is one differentiation I'd like to get your opinion on with a 1 question survey: https://forms.gle/7DM3EKoAB6P4ZBXf8 If you could respond to this tiny little survey, it will help me finalize some of the changes I'm currently making. Additionally, if you have any Tribes/Nations in your local communities that you currently work with that you know we should update, please notify me off-list and I can incorporate those as well. The last major update I made was over a year ago and is found here (tinyurl.com/IndigTribal<http://tinyurl.com/IndigTribal>) Have a great week!
