Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Update - February 1, 2011
Bindlestiff expects 2011 to be a spectacular year for Cirkus. In the next few months we are presenting Winter Cirkus Cabarets in Hudson and NYC, the Cavalcade of Youth at Coney Island, the monthly Open Stage in Dumbo, and shows in New Brunswick, Canada. We are also making plans for summer shows at Lake George, NY, the Summerscape Spiegeltent at Bard College, the 2011 NYC Unicycle Festival, discussing a second season of The Bindlestiffs webisode series, and much more. Here is a look at the next few months.

Come to Dumbo Brooklyn for a spectacular night of variety entertainment that will include much more than a simple song and dance. Hosted by Bindlestiff Family Cirkus co-founder Keith Nelson, Bindlestiffs Open Stage Variety Show is a non stop variety show experience that may include The Heavy Metal Magician, Kung Fu juggling, trained rats, clown bands, aerial artists, wire walkers, sword swallowers, stripping clowns, living cartoons, physical comedy, a cougar contortionist and a cowboy from the Bronx. Every show offers amazing sights, quirky surprises, and some of the best variety artists working New York and the world. Always entertaining.
Every month you can expect a different line up of emerging artists and professional entertainers. Galapagos Art Space has dedicating the first Monday of every month to New York City's variety, vaudeville, aerial, and circus artists. Celebrating works in progress, emerging artists, and professionals trying something new, this night promises many surprises.

The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus presents: An Estrogen-Powered Evening's Entertainment at Helsinki Hudson on Friday March 25
Join Ringmistress Philomena as she turns the ring over to two of her favorite artists, friends with long connections to Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. At 9pm, a set from Sweet Soubrette features the songwriting, vocals and ukulele of Ellia Bisker, whose dark, edgy love songs have captured fans' hearts and critical praise since she began performing solo with her ukulele in 2006. At 10pm, enter “Mistress B’s Latex Lounge." Both performers have faithful followings in NYC's music and club scene.
Truly an evening of twisted variety, the night begins at 9pm with a set from Sweet Soubrette, bringing fresh sounds from the January 2011 release "Days and Nights": "Her vocal sound is reminiscent of contemporaries Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michealson, and Nicole Atkins…her witty lyrics, humorous sub-context, and seductive stage presence all contribute to the performance that is Sweet Soubrette…her new tunes on Days and Nights...have moments of charismatic joy and sultry delight."" –CultureMob

At 10pm, “Mistress B’s Latex Lounge” is a set formed of a quirky mélange of circus, burlesque, and cabaret filled with comedy, music, audience participation, and rubber, rubber, rubber. Escape into a ridiculous world of music, wit, and inflatables, featuring original songs, a Slave Contest, a Manners Challenge, and a group sing-along. NOT appropriate for the kiddies!

The Performers of Tomorrow Steal the Stage Today!
Bindlestiff Family Cirkus presents a special showcase for young variety performers, ranging from amateurs to world-class professionals. Juvenile jugglers, diminutive dancers, adolescent acrobats, and a host of other moppets and mummers present a full show of vernal vaudeville. Acts range from debuting amateurs to world-class champion performers—all under the age of 21.
Now in its seventh year, Bindlestiff Cavalcade of Youth continues to feature an amazing array of young talent. These are the future stars of Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Coney Island Sideshow, and television. Where else can you see juvenile unicyclists, tap dancers, magicians, clowns, and contortionists sharing the stage with Broadway-bound singers and classically trained musicians? All the performers are under 21, but audience members of all ages love this show.

2011 NYC Unicycle Festival
The 2011 NYC Unicycle Festival will be rolling across the Big Apple Sept 2-4, 2011. This year's festival will include a 13 mile ride across Brooklyn, public showcases, learn to ride workshops, a trials course, unicycle sports (basketball, hockey and races), and much more.
