Ok, maybe I have just making soap for too long......With my regular customers if they are going to order a few bars, I tell them that I will make a 15 bar batch and sell them the batch. I make the soaps to order. I have found this to be the easiest way for me to do business as I do not so much unsold product. Of course I am one of the lucky ones who still works a day job, that I need because of health coverage. andrea

Dottie (and others),
I don't mind the discussion of vendors that you use and what you like
about them. If you want the rules, here they are:
0. Be polite! If you can't say something nice, or at least in a polite
tone, then don't.
1. Don't advertise. I don't use the list to promote my business. Don't
use my list to promote yours. This list is for soap and cosmetic makers
to share ideas and experiences.
2. If you have questions, please ask. If you don't get an answer,
don't get mad. The people on the list share out of the goodness of
their heart. They don't have any obligation to do your business
research. If you need research, be prepared to pay.
3. Be patient! Remember that once upon a time you could hardly type on
the computer as well. If a person can't remember how to unsubscribe,
don't flame them. Just ignore the rantings of the lost. I will
eventually help them to the door.
4. Remember to cut and waste. If you follow the list, you remember
what has been said. If you are on the digest you can see the current
conversation. Please try to limit quotes to 3 or 4 lines.
5. DON"T SHOUT! REALLY, WE CAN HEAR YOU! i would rather read the
quite typing of someone that cant work the shift key or afford
punctuation rather than shouting
So, the answer to your question is that it is ok to discuss vendors on
this list. Of course I always hope that TheSage.com is everyones
preferred vendor. The reality is that TheSage.com does not carry
everything that can be imagined, shipping costs suck, and the East Coast
is 5 shipping days away from Utah. We hope that we can earn your
business, but at least deserve your friendship.
I hope that this helps guide you with what this list is for.
Just remember the golden rule.

Jeannie,
Congratulations! Nice to have a good show like that. You must of had
some rather attractive soaps, salts and bath oils to get that kind of
attention.

Since I obviously was the one to be commented upon, sorry if I bothered
anyone. I sometimes try to share the info I have and I get carried away. I
did include MMSage in the conversation because they have been around, are a
great supplier and I used them 10 years ago. To still be in business is a
great attribute to the soap business.
so I will try and refrain from getting carried away :) and review my posts
before I hit send.
Thanks for the rules, so I can now enjoy the list even more!!!!

Has anyone added smelly jellies, ( I would love to think of a nicer name) or incense to their product line? and how well does it sell?
What kind of jars did you use, regular with full lids or the cut out lids?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you, Dirk, for reminding everyone about the rules and proper decorum
when responding to posts. I've been quietly watching the exchanges here the
last few days and I'm glad that you gently reprimanded those that have
chosen to post negative comments.
That said, I've been a member for several years and use MMS when I can but I
am on the East Coast and you're correct, shipping costs/time stinks. I have
several reputable companies that I use out here but sometimes MMS is the
only place I can get certain items! I am very lucky to have an INCREDIBLE
soap oil supplier in St. Petersburg, about 20 miles away, that saves me a
TON of money when I purchase 5 gallon buckets of coconut/palm oils. I've
found only a few suppliers in the Southeast that I use continuously but
sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and order from MMS or another
company located out west. If anyone wants/needs some Florida or Southeast
suppliers, let me know and I'll post them.
Thanks for getting us all back on track to the real reason we are members of
this list. Send some fall weather to us, we're dying down here with 90
degree temps in October!
Good evening,

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm writing from the right spot... Can someone direct me to the actual blog site? Seems I have lost it.
Anyhoo, I have been making soap like crazy the last few months... and am going to be doing my first craft fair soon! Yea! I'm so excited! But I'm still a bit unsure on what I should price my soap at. I average a soap bar sz of 4-4.5 oz. Could everyone tell me what they price theirs at? Or what a fair price per oz should be. I don't want to over price but something that will make everyone happy.
Take care,
Heather

HI All,
Mark is correct. Peoples lives change and move on--"SO they want off the
list" wish them well-- and bye-bye!
I'd like to put out a ""HAPPY NOTE" I did a small craft show --on a monday
night(already a reason to runnnnnnnnnnnnawaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy!!)
However, it was my best event ever!!
I took 10 types of soap(12 lbs of each-cut into bars wrapped etc)
Bath salts, Bath bombs,Foot soaks, 3 types of massage oils and fresh cut
lavender and Mint bundles--knew it would be a sitting and chatting night--
OH MY GOODNESS<< I came home with $980.00 in my pocket,, and my supply boxes
were?so much lighter and my bank account is much happier today!!
