Since I actually have a few minutes right now I thought I would expand a little bit.....:)
I posted that I used Oils by Nature. I found their prices reasonable. I did a spread sheet on the basic pricing for Columbus, MMSage, Rainbow Meadows, Wholesale Supply -I think they are outside of Cleveland, and a couple of others that were higher priced that I just ignored.
I made soap when I lived in Texas, late 1990's, and used different suppliers down there. For me it often it depends on the shipping. If someone ships UPS - that is a little more because I am way out in a rural area -also depends on how many days it will take for the items to be delivered. So if it is a few dollars more for oils, but a few dollars less for shipping because the supplier is located closer to me or in my state, then I would use that supplier.
Oils by Nature have been convenient. Their items are good quality in my opinion. I have ordered items from Wholesale Supply, MMSage and a couple of others. Good Customer service and promptness of processing orders is also Important, but those things affect where I order oils and other items I need.
I think the original question was asking about coconut and palm oil. The reason that they Oils by Nature) were convenient is because I can only order a couple of pounds -- Depends on how much soap you want to make. I think Columbus foods has larger quantities. For example, (do not quote me on this however,) when I was trying to compare items these were some of the prices.....Don't forget, companies run specials, items are on sale, and so forth so checking that company out yourself is suggested.
Coconut Oil (there is fractionated and Coconut Oil 76 degrees-what are you usuing it for? I am still learning the benefits of one versus the other. Also, palm oil and palm kernel oil. I have attempted to read the information sheets from those who have been in business for awhile.
So overall, alot of what people use to make their soap depends on what they like. I used companies I am familiar with and that I know have been in business since I was making soap back about 98 or '99. such as MMSage, Rainbow Meadows, TKB Trading among others. If they have survived since the 1990's I know they have very beneficial information and can rely on what they say regarding the oils and what each adds to soapmaking.
Research, research, research, asking questions and even posting short answers if you are busy, all combined --it helps us all out!
Have a good day,
