*Cold Souls <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/coldsouls>* Is your
soul weighing you down? Paul Giamatti has found a solution! In the
surreal comedy Cold Souls, Paul Giamatti plays an actor named... Paul
Giamatti. Stumbling upon an article in The New Yorker about a high-tech
company that extracts, deep-freezes and stores people's souls, Paul very
well might have found the key to happiness for which he's been searching.
*My One and Only <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/myoneandonly>* A
1950s-set comedy in which the glamorous Anne Deveraux (Renee Zellweger)
embarks on a drive down the Eastern Seaboard in a quixotic search for a
wealthy man to fund a new life for her and her sons. Also starring Kevin
Bacon, Chris Noth, and Nick Stahl.
***1/2 Roger Ebert- "This is essentially Renee Zellweger's picture, and
she glows in it."
*Lorna's Silence <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/lornassilence>
*The destiny of a woman caught between love and the law of the
underworld. Lorna, a young Albanian woman living in Belgium, has her
sights set on opening a snack bar with her boyfriend. In order to do so,
she becomes an accomplice in a diabolical plan devised by mobster. From
the Dardenne Brothers, directors of L'Enfant.
**** The New York Times- "Lorna's Silence is engrossing and powerful,
which may be just another way of saying it's a film by the Dardenne
brothers."
_*Tower
Afghan Star <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/afghanstar>*_ A look
at how contestants on the a musical contest program "Pop Idol" in
Afghanistan risk their lives to appear on the show. Filmmaker Havana
Marking follows the dramatic stories of four of the contestants over
three months, from regional auditions to the finals in Kabul, giving us
a new, and more human, look at this troubled part of the world.
**** Boston Globe- "One of the most hopeful and heart-rending movies
I've seen this year."

*Held Over!*
*_
_Adoration <
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1074929/>* Indie auteur, Atom
Egoyan, brings us a highly compelling story of a high school student
who, for his French-class assignment, weaves his family history in a
news story involving terrorism, and goes on to invite an internet
audience in on the resulting controversy.
**** The New York Times- "A profound and provocative exploration of
cultural inheritance, communications technology and the roots and
morality of terrorism, the Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan nimbly wades
into an ideological minefield without detonating an explosion."
*_
(500) Days of Summer
<
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/500daysofsummer>_* An offbeat
romantic comedy and Sundance hit about a woman (played perfectly by
Zooey Deschanel) who doesn't believe true love exists, and the young man
(Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who falls for her.
**** Roger Ebert- "Here is a rare movie...a delightful comedy, alive
with invention."
*
**_Adam <
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185836/plotsummary>_* Adam is a
handsome but intriguing young man who has all his life led a sheltered
existence - until he meets his new neighbor, Beth, a beautiful,
cosmopolitan young woman who pulls him into the outside world, with
funny, touching and entirely unexpected results. Their implausible and
enigmatic relationship reveals just how far two people from different
realities can stretch in search of an extraordinary connection.
**** Los Angeles Times- "Subtlety and nuance mark both the film's
dialogue and performances. It's hard to see how [the actors] could be
any better."*
*_*
Ponyo <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/ponyo>*_ Japanese master
animator Hayao Miyazaki brings us a story inspired by Hans Christian
Andersen's fairy tale "The Little Mermaid." Already a box-office success
in Japan, this story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo and
her quest to become human features an outstanding roster of voice talent
including Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Liam Neeson, Lily
Tomlin, and Betty White.
*_
Food, Inc. <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/foodinc>_* You'll
never look at dinner the same way again after seeing this unflattering
look inside America's corporate-controlled food industry. Featuring
interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and
Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) Food, Inc. reveals surprising --
and often shocking truths -- about what we eat, how it's produced, who
we have become as a nation and where we are going from here. **** Los
Angeles Times- "Essential Viewing"

_*PROGRAMS AND NEWS
*_ *Special Sneak Preview!
*On Wednesday, 9/16 at 7pm we'll be holding a special sneak preview
benefit screening of the hilarious doc and Sundance hit The Yes Men Fix
the World at the Broadway. Tickets are $20 and all proceeds will benefit
Tim DeChristopher (Bidder #70) who will be in person for a Q and A after
the film.
_*The Yes Men Fix the World <
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1352852/>*_
Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno are two guys who just can't take "no"
for an answer. They have an unusual hobby: posing as top executives of
corporations they hate. Armed with nothing but thrift-store suits, the
Yes Men lie their way into business conferences and parody their
corporate targets in ever more extreme ways - basically doing everything
that they can to wake up their audiences to the danger of letting greed
run our world.

*_*Free Wireless Internet at the Broadway!*
Our local web provider, XMISSION <
http://www.xmission.com/>, has
generously donated their wireless internet services for the lobby of the
Broadway. Now you can surf the web on your laptop while you wait for
your film or simply come down and relax while you enjoy one of our
gourmet coffees in our lounge area. Thanks Xmission!
