Soul Power
<
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/soulpower?q=soul%20power>_* In
1974, the most celebrated American R&B acts of the time came together
with the most renowned musical groups in Africa for a 12-hour,
three-night long concert held in Kinshasa, Zaire; this exquisite
documentary tells the story.
**** The New York Times "Soul Power, as aptly and succinctly titled a
movie as I have ever seen, takes you to a place where the discipline
that produces great popular art is indistinguishable from the ecstasy
that art creates."*_
Management <
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1082853/>_* When Sue checks into
the roadside motel owned by Mike's parents in Arizona, what starts with
a bottle of wine "compliments of Management" soon evolves into a
multi-layered, cross-country journey of two people looking for a sense
of purpose. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Steve Zahn, and Woody Harrelson.
*_
_**** Roger Ebert "Management works as a sweet rom-com with some big
laughs."
_*Tower
*_
_*Little Ashes <
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104083/>*_ In 1922, Madrid
is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged
by the dangerous new influences of Jazz, Freud and the avant-garde.
Salvador Dali arrives at the university; 18 years old and determined to
become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant
exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university's social
elite - Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunel. Starring Robert Pattinson
as Dali.

_**Held Over!*
*_(500) Days of Summer
<
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/500daysofsummer>_* An offbeat
romantic comedy and Sundance hit about a woman (played perfectly by
Zooey Deschanel) who doesn't believe true love exists, and the young man
(Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who falls for her.
**** Roger Ebert- "Here is a rare movie...a delightful comedy, alive
with invention."
*
**_Adam <
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185836/plotsummary>_* Adam is a
handsome but intriguing young man who has all his life led a sheltered
existence - until he meets his new neighbor, Beth, a beautiful,
cosmopolitan young woman who pulls him into the outside world, with
funny, touching and entirely unexpected results. Their implausible and
enigmatic relationship reveals just how far two people from different
realities can stretch in search of an extraordinary connection.
**** Los Angeles Times- "Subtlety and nuance mark both the film's
dialogue and performances. It's hard to see how [the actors] could be
any better."*
*_*
Ponyo <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/ponyo>*_ Japanese master
animator Hayao Miyazaki brings us a story inspired by Hans Christian
Andersen's fairy tale "The Little Mermaid." Already a box-office success
in Japan, this story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo and
her quest to become human features an outstanding roster of voice talent
including Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Liam Neeson, Lily
Tomlin, and Betty White.
_*Paper Heart <
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1331064/>*_ Charlyne Yi has
her doubts about the existence of true love and embarks on a quest
across America to make a documentary about the one subject she doesn't
fully understand, only to meet a boy after her own heart: Michael Cera.
Combining elements of documentary and traditional storytelling, reality
and fantasy, Paper Heart brings a fresh perspective to the modern
romance and redefines the classic love story.
*_
In the Loop <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/intheloop>_* With
razor-sharp, truly laugh-out-loud dialogue the film pokes fun at the
absurdity and ineptitude of our highest leaders. With James Gandolfini
and Steve Coogan.
**** The New York Times- "A sharply written, fast-talking, almost
dementedly articulate satire on modern statecraft."
*_Food, Inc. <
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/foodinc>_* You'll
never look at dinner the same way again after seeing this unflattering
look inside America's corporate-controlled food industry. Featuring
interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and
Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) Food, Inc. reveals surprising --
and often shocking truths -- about what we eat, how it's produced, who
we have become as a nation and where we are going from here. **** Los
Angeles Times- "Essential Viewing"
*Last Chance ... Ends Thursday 9/3!*
