Subject: [Fidos-announcements] Parleys Update
Attention FIDOS:

The agreements to allow construction of the PRATT Trail through Parleys Park
(Tanner Park) were approved on Tuesday night by Salt Lake City. FIDOS
representatives were there to tell the elected officials of our concerns
about the trail placement and and the inevitable conflicts that will arise
from putting a bicycle trail through an official "off leash" dog area. We
are hopeful that the trail will not be officially designated as "on leash"
from the onset and FIDOS will work with Salt Lake City in their efforts to
educate both user groups about how to share space. You can read the Tribune
article about the meeting at http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_13154570 .

You will see construction beginning very soon. Please be cautious around
the construction area. There will be sections of fencing alongside the
freeway removed to allow equipment access. Watch your dogs carefully and
avoid active construction areas when possible.

This is just one of the issues that have been of great concern to FIDOS.
The next issue - a much bigger one - is the management plan that is in the
works and will address future use of the park. There are serious proposals
out there that may take away some or all of the park for off leash use.
FIDOS is actively working with Salt Lake City to avoid loss of area. We
will be sending out messages when we need your help - and your help is
ESSENTIAL to keep the off leash privileges we worked so hard to win. Please
watch for messages and pass the word to others to sign up on the website -
www.millcreekfidos.org - in order that we can get the word out.

We know that this fight seems to go on and on. You are not imagining this,
it does go on and on. And the people who choose "off leash" as their form
of recreation must stay engaged in the political scene. This fight will
never end and it is imperative that we keep our members involved.

Thanks for all you do.
Millcreek FIDOS
