*Opening at the theaters this week!

_Broadway
In the Loop <http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/intheloop>_* With
razor-sharp, truly laugh-out-loud dialogue the film pokes fun at the
absurdity and ineptitude of our highest leaders. With everyone looking
out for number one, and the fate of the free world at stake (but
apparently incidental), the hilarious ensemble cast of characters
(including James Gandolfini and Steve Coogan) bumbles its way through
Machiavellian political dealings, across continents, and toward comic
resolutions that are unforeseeable.
**** The New York Times- "A sharply written, fast-talking, almost
dementedly articulate satire on modern statecraft."

_*Humpday <http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/humpday>*_ Two guys
take their bromance to another level when they participate in an art
film project. Writer/director Lynn Shelton, director of My Effortless
Brilliance and recipient of the "Someone to Watch Award" at the 2009
Independent Spirit Awards, expertly mines the biggest ironies of the
male ego to hilarious effect. Humpday is a buddy movie gone wild.
***** *San Francisco Chronicle- "Humpday succeeds, often beautifully, by
grounding its risque premise in the awkwardness and humor of real people
trying their damnedest to communicate. A lot."

_*Tower
The Merry Gentleman <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0967945/>*_ Michael
Keaton's directorial debut, The Merry Gentleman tells the story of a
woman (played by the remarkable Kelly Macdonald) fleeing her abusive
husband through traveling to Chicago and starting a new life. But upon
fatefully disrupting a remorseful hitman's (Keaton) suicide, she becomes
intertwined in the lonely killer's life and that of the sullen detective
attempting to track him down.
***** *Los Angeles Times- "A dark and lovely drama about the
complications of human connections that is Michael Keaton's impressive
directing debut."
*_

_**Held Over!
**_(500) Days of Summer
<http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/500daysofsummer>_* An offbeat
romantic comedy and Sundance hit about a woman (played perfectly by
Zooey Deschanel) who doesn't believe true love exists, and the young man
(Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who falls for her.

**** Roger Ebert- "Here is a rare movie...a delightful comedy, alive
with invention."
*
**_The Cove <http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/cove>_* In this
pulse-pounding eco-thriller, a crack team of divers, activists and
special effects experts infiltrate a secret cove in Japan to expose one
of history's most shocking and unimaginable crimes against nature.
Winner of the Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival, 'The
Cove' is sure to be one of the most talked about films of the summer.
**** The New York Times- "...an exceptionally well-made documentary that
unfolds like a spy thriller, complete with bugged hotel rooms,
clandestine derring-do and mysterious men in gray flannel suits."
*_Food, Inc. <http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/foodinc>_* You'll
never look at dinner the same way again after seeing this unflattering
look inside America's corporate-controlled food industry. Featuring
interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and
Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) Food, Inc. reveals surprising --
and often shocking truths -- about what we eat, how it's produced, who
we have become as a nation and where we are going from here. **** Los
Angeles Times- "Essential Viewing"
*_
_The Hurt Locker <http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/hurtlocker> *One
of the most widely acclaimed films of the year, The Hurt Locker is an
intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous
jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. Starring
Jeremy Renner, Ralph Fiennes, and Guy Pierce. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow

**** The New York Times- "The best nondocumentary American feature made
yet about the war in Iraq."
_*
Ponyo <http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/ponyo>*_ Japanese master
animator Hayao Miyazaki brings us a story inspired by Hans Christian
Andersen's fairy tale "The Little Mermaid." Already a box-office success
in Japan, this story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo and
her quest to become human features an outstanding roster of voice talent
including Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Liam Neeson, Lily
Tomlin, and Betty White. *
*

_*Paper Heart <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1331064/>*_ Charlyne Yi has
her doubts about the existence of true love and embarks on a quest
across America to make a documentary about the one subject she doesn't
fully understand, only to meet a boy after her own heart: Michael Cera.
Combining elements of documentary and traditional storytelling, reality
and fantasy, Paper Heart brings a fresh perspective to the modern
romance and redefines the classic love story.

*This weekend at midnight!
*

_*Rushmore
<http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/rushmore?q=rushmore>*_ "Sic
Transit Gloria" in this cult masterpiece from indie auteur Wes Anderson.

*

Last Chance ... Ends Thursday 8/20!
**MOON <http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/moon>
**AWAY WE GO <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1176740/>*
