Darin, I'd be glad to help out...Gusty is out of the water with the keel bolt replacement project. I can either get measurements/drawings/photos for Soren Wittrup, or when my rudder shaft broke, I just ordered a new one from Catalina. Don't know if they still have the molds or parts, but they were very accommodating some years ago. -DeWitt

Subject: [Victory21] forwarded message - rudder problem
Hi there,
I don't know if this is the right place to pose this question, if not I am hoping you can direct me to the right place.
My problem is as follows.
A friend of mine owns a Victory 21 from Wesco Marine, which over the last 7 years I have worked on restoring various parts of it during the winter off season.
We sail on Lake Michigan out of Chicago.
Yesterday we took her out for what was supposed to be a leisurely sail, watching the Chicago Air and Water Show from the lake.
Things turned nasty, and we were caught in a micro burst storm that almost capsized the boat.
During the struggle to right the boat and turn in to the wind, the pressure on the rudder got to be too much and it sheared clean off and dropped to the bottom of Lake Michigan, some mile out from Chicago.
Here are some pictures of what is left.
What I am looking for, is either a replacement rudder or if someone has pictures and detailed measurements that I could use to have a new one made.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I would very much like her sailing again.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Very best regards
Soren Wittrup
