FOTD -- July 02, 2009 (No Rating)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image shows the grossly enlarged Mandelbrot aspect of a
scene very deep in East Valley, framed by the Julia set of East
Valley. The angle of the slice is one-millionth of one degree
from the true Julia direction. This is the angle of one centi-
meter as seen from a distance of over 570 kilometers. But as
tomorrow's image will show, all the Mandelbrot features are
still there, and undistorted as well.

I named the image "One Skinny Trunk", even though the skinny
thing running diagonally from lower left to upper right is not
an elephant trunk, but the entire width of East Valley at the C
point of 25.00001. Since the image trick is a virtual repeat of
one I did with Seahorse Valley, I could give the image no rating.

If you think the calculation time of 24 minutes is slow, wait
until you see the calculation time of tomorrow's image. But
don't fret. Both images will be available on the FOTD web site
at:

Fairly warm but otherwise pleasant weather prevailed here at
Fractal Central on Wednesday, with partly cloudy skies and a
temperature of 84F 29C. A light thunder-shower moved in well
after dark, which passed pretty much un-noticed by the fractal
cats, who spent the day watching for stray cats.

During a hurried lunch I asked FL why she spends so much time
watching those silly latin TV novellas. She commented that
people with common sense ignore the silly questions I sometimes
ask. Then I told her that this shows the stupidity of people
with common sense. When she asked if I think she has common
sense, I took a long sip of coffee.

The day was so busy that I was forced to post the FOTD 12 hours
late. This means the next FOTD is due in 12 hours. It's a very
slow one, so be prepared.
