I haven't compared side-by-side the 50% rule in the various editions but I
do know that Bill has used 40% in the past for large cap stocks. For small
caps he prefers a higher volume increase and even 50% might be considered
light.

Thanks Mike. I saw the box pattern mentioned in IBD Investors Corner the
other day. In another recent issue I noticed a comment along the lines of
volume must be at least 40% higher than average on the breakout. That's
what triggered my thought about the 4th edition and if the 50% volume
increase on breakout had been reduced.

Marc,
I am part way through the 4th edition.
The significant changes are the charts. Bill added 1 100-chart model book of
charts in the front going back into the 1885.
He introduced a new base formation called the square box also which is kind
of like a flat base but can be as short at 4 weeks.
