Back in 1981 I actually threw down on a Houston, Texas 7-11 parking lot full
of punks who were conducting a gang fight using knives, clubs and wide belts
with the buckles on the swinging end. I was riding
shotgun...literally...with a 7-11 company security officer who was also a
police officer. He stepped out from behind the steering wheel with a .45
auto in one hand and a badge in the other and I stepped out of the passenger
side with a pump shotgun. When those punks heard, then saw that shotgun
they all instantly turned into track stars and cleared the area...maybe the
time zone. The only one that we collared had a big cut on his back. He
said, hell no I don't want to go to the hospital, I just want get the hell
out of Houston, Texas. Can't say I blamed him. I left for good about two
months after that incident.

Gotta say, nothing cuts the small talk like the sound of chambering a
large bore shell.

Dang, Beav, 80+ was our temp here in Texas today. Something's upside
down
if you ask me.
That spear kept close by for home protection sounds interesting. My
home
protection "spear" is a Mossberg model 500 pump action police style
shotgun....plus an assortment of potent hand guns.
We have boars, too, along with a motley collection of two legged vermin,
mostly in the big cities 40 minutes away but enough here in our town to
warrant being vigilant and being prepared to repel boarders. My
password
for 30 years as a construction inspector has always been "Trust but
verify".
I trust everybody but I reserve the right (and duty) to verify 'em.
Maybe I'll see you at the national RDV next year. Can't make it in
June.
I wish we got "Savage Wild". Sounds pretty interesting.

Subject: MtMan-List: Savage Wild
I was just sitting around between mowing my large lawn. Here's
something kind of neat, my neighbors herd of bison consume any and all
vegatation that my yard produces. They eat all the grass clippings (up
to 60 gallons at a time, just from my lawn, not to mention his), leaves
(green or dried) and we have even dragged whole trees back in the woods
for them to eat, the leaves and bark on it anyway. In the fall they
consume all of my wilting garden except the tomato plants. And of
course I get all the buffalo chips I could ever want for fertilizer. It
is the greatest thing in the world having access to a herd of bison! I
tell my neighbor that he was green long before it was cool!
So between mowing sections, I turned on the Outdoor Channel to see
"Savage Wild" with Manny Puig. He killed a very large wild boar with a
spear! I was very impressed with the hunt. He was standing on an
overhanging tree in a shallow swamp when the bore walked underneath him
and a well placed spear killed the very large boar, it died within
fifty yards! Very impressive! Did anyone else see it?? I've never seen
anything like it.
The spear tip is visible on some of his webpages.
I made a spear years ago when I thought about hunting whitetails with
a
spear in pretty much the same way, still hunting in an elevated stand.
I forged a spearhead at work and mounted it to a shaft. I still have
that spear in the house for home protection!
Seeing an actual spear kill really impressed me and makes me want to
hunt with a spear this fall! My neighbor who hunts on the adjoining
property will just laugh and shake his head. What else do I have to do
with my time??
It's hot here in Montana 80+
