Ah, but BD wasn't/isn't on TVT as a solo artist. He was on Bar-None:
http://www.bar-none.com/bill-drummond.html And certainly as late as 2003
you could buy "The Man" on vinyl from them, brand new.
A bankrupt TVT could well see the slow disappearance of "History of the
JAMs" and "Chill Out" from the record shop shelves, which would be a shame
for new fans who would then have to rely on Ebay prices.
Anyone else remember the proposed Castle Communications reissue of "The
Man", due out in autumn 2004? There was even talk of an extra track ("The
Manager's Speech") and mention of it in a few new release listings in record
shops. Then, the release date came and went and nothing appeared. Castle -
a low-buget label - were at the time busy re-releasing stuff by mid-brow
Creation Records acts like the Boo Radleys and the Lilac Time (following
Creation's collapse in 2000, and Castle's purchase of some of the release
licences) so it seemed more than plausible that Bill's album could reappear
with them.
It's a shame that never came to pass ... Although I remember after Creation
went bust at the beginning of the decade, someone somewhere got all their
back catalogue out of storage and starting flogging CDs (including "The
Man") for £5 a pop through indie shops in the UK.
