Calling All HAM*s
This is an open request to all Bonneville Bike Club members who either
have an Amateur Radio (HAM) license, or who would like to get their
license, and who would like to provide on the road course information
during the Little Red Riding Hood Century Ride on June 7, 2008 to
participate.
If you are going to ride on the Little Red and you are currently a HAM
operator and have an HT (handheld radio) and you want to help out,
please send an email to me at mickey@??? and I will sign
you up to do on course intelligence work. All that we would be asking
of you is that you tune your radios to the Net Control frequency, and if
you come upon an incident that you think we should know about, radio it
in. This would include information about riders down, or cars that are
driving in a dangerous manner, for example.
If you are currently a HAM and not going to ride on the Little Red
(i.e. you are a male of the species) and would like to help out, we
still need SAG support as well as communications support at the rest
stops. Let me know if you are interested by sending an email to me at
mickey@??? .
If you are not currently a HAM, but you would like to be, let me know
at mickey@???, by May 16th. Members of the Salt Lake
County ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) group have agreed to
provide a training course so that you can take your license test at the
May 27th testing session held in Salt Lake City. To provide a little
incentive to those who are teetering, my wife Barbara, At Large member
of the BBC Board, passed her Amateur Radio Technicians license at the
April testing session. She did it just by using the on-line training
and practice tests that are available.
Thanks
Mickey
