I have made soap on our farm for 25 years. I use whatever fat becomes
available to make soap for bathing and laundry. I have good success with
beef fat. I like to use a combination of animal fats and find the lye
calculator at Majestic Mountain invaluable. Never a bad batch! I have had
mostly lard (pork) the last two years.
