FOTD -- May 02, 2008 (Rating 7)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image lies in the parent fractal that appears when 3/4
part of Z^(1.6) is subtracted from 3/4 part of Z^(1.4) and (C)
is added. Once again this parent is an oversized monstrosity
closely resembling a Mandelbrot set rotated 180 degrees, but
with no main spike and a spiral-filled East Valley that lies on
the west side and is beginning to be swallowed up. Today's
scene is located in a spiral in the East Valley area of its
parent.
I named the image "Even More Spirals" in recognition of the
abundance of spirals favored by fractal artists. Actually,
there's nothing wrong with spirals, just like there's nothing
wrong with the crew of the star-ship Enterprise being possessed
by alien spirits from space.
After giving the image its name, I rated it at a 7, which is
good enough, though far from outstanding. If I had put a bit
more effort into the coloring, I might have raised the rating to
a 7-1/2, but I decided to browse through some old Scientific
American magazines from 1963 instead. (I find the 45-year-old
issues more interesting than the current over-designed and some-
what pretentious ones.)
The included parameter file runs on my 2000mhz fireball in 1-1/4
minutes -- not too bad for an image that rates a 7. And for
those who cannot, or prefer not, to run parameter files, the
completed image is posted to the FOTD web site at:

Morning sun on Thursday gave way to afternoon clouds and evening
sprinkles here at Fractal Central, while the temperature reached
59F 15C and the fractal cats argued over their catnip rat.
My day was slow enough. Tomorrow is likely to be the same. The
next fractal will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care,
and what ever happened to all those wonderful hi-tech products,
which the promoters told us that the space shuttle program and
space station were going to make possible?
