FOTD -- April 23, 2008 (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's lively fractal is infested with dark shadows, which is
why I named it "Very Dark Shadows". The name has nothing to do
with an old TV series, which is the only soap-operaish program I
ever actually got interested in. It merely refers to the gloomy
appearance of the image, which is entirely of my making.

The parent fractal came about when I iterated the formula
Z^(2.005)+C at a level one step up the infinitely-valued loga-
rithmic ladder, with the 'conj' function applied. This function
is probably totally wrong, but what the heck, it makes an inter-
esting image, consisting of a near-normal Mandelbrot set rotated
so that the period-4 bud on the southern shore of the main bay
intersects the negative X-axis, which is where all the action
lies.

There is an anomalously large minibrot in this area, and today's
scene is located in the East Valley of this minibrot. I might
have made the image a lot brighter, but being in a kind of down
mood despite the bright weather, I let it go with the depressed
feeling created by the dark areas. At the end, I rated it at a
7.

The calculation time of 13 minutes is slow, but nothing that any
fractalist has never seen before. And the wait may be elimina-
ted by going to the FOTD web site at:

<http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html>

and viewing the finished image there.

They say that Pennsylvania had the best weather in the nation
for our election on Tuesday. Being located in the center of the
state, Fractal Central enjoyed the best day so far this spring.
The blue skies, puffy white clouds, temperature of 73F 23C and
lack of airplane contrails could hardly be beat. Being uninter-
ested in politics, the fractal cats merely enjoyed the sun.

My day was average; tomorrow looks to be the same. The next
FOTD will be posted right here in 24 hours. Until then, take
care, and even the most rational-thinking scientists admit that
miracles are real.
