Jack,
Most of the money I lost last year was on the short side - buying ETF's - focusing on long poitions I owned as LEAPS.
I also sat out shorting the last couple of weeks, but, my net longs have gotten hammered!

Shorting seems to be way more work than regular investing the CANSLIM way . I closed all my positions yesterday , including my short etf's. Made a couple thousand . Not worth it. I'll wait for a confirmed "Bear Market" before going back to shorting . I did learn a few things though . It's amazing how much faster you learn , when your using real money .

Not exactly , I would still follow CANSLIM sell rules . That is sell at 7-8 % loss . Take 20% gains. I wouldn't hold short for more than a 20% gain.

IMO we’re long overdue for some kind of relief rally. Even if you believe we’re in a bear market, are you prepared to stomach short-term 10% or 20% gains in these run down names?
The S&P has now erased all of its 2007 gains and is down another 4% from there. I agree there is no long-term support in sight but fear is driving this market right now. Scary to be long, or short.

OK , Thought this went through ,apologize if it's repeated. Here are a few stocks I'm thinking of shorting , or at least studying . I admit doing anything in this market is scary . AAPL, BIDU, GOOG . all short . GOOG has nothing holding it except the $600 mark. AAPL and BIDU are going down to at least there 200DMA.
