1) *Babcock Performing Readers Present "Harvey" By Mary Chase*

Impromptu Play Reading, Edited and Hosted by Gary Walton

Thursday, January 10, 2008, 7:30 p.m.

Little Theatre U of U Union Building

After being seated, members receive scripts of the popular classic,
"Harvey," a comedy in three acts, to read impromptu. This edition focuses
on the last two acts. Bring your imagination and become a star in this zany
play where a large white rabbit takes center stage among a cast of equally
zany characters. Before the evening is over, Elwood P. Dowd, will convince
you that Harvey does indeed exist.

Public invited. Members only may read.

Notes: Chase won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1945 for this lighthearted,
and clever farce. The original play ran for 1775 shows from 1944-49 and
starred some actors who would later reprise their roles in the 1950 feature
film from Universal Pictures. It garnered an Oscar for Josephine Hull who
played Elwood P. Dowd's sister, Veta Louise Simmons, in both the play and
the movie. James Stewart eventually joined the Broadway cast, later bringing
Elwood and his "very dear friend," Harvey, to the screen.

Parking is free after 6:00 p.m. in the visitor lot east of the Union
Building. Take a ticket at the entry gate. Obtain a validation sticker at
the performance or the main desk.

Free Admission and Free Refreshments Partially funded by Salt Lake County
Zoo, Arts & Parks, Salt Lake City Arts Council

2)* Bagging Birds Installation Deals With Environmental Epidemic Or The
Moral Implications of The Artist's Chosen Career Path*

Art Access II Gallery is pleased to welcome graphic artist Carol Sogard and
her installation Bagging Birds. This thought-provoking show will hang from
January 18 through February 8. The artist¹s reception will be held on
Friday, January 18 during the Salt Lake Gallery Association's Gallery
Stroll.

Sogard, who is assistant professor of graphic arts at the University of Utah
says that she often struggles with the moral implications of her chosen
career path. She theorizes that because brand promotion is an integral part
of the graphic arts, designers are ultimately responsible for the creation
of an over-consumptive population and an ecosystem that is rapidly
declining.

The installation of 130 'plastic bagged birds' attempts to shed light on the
environmental impacts of our plastic trash in the hopes of encouraging
consumers to think differently about their habits of consumption.

Sogard gives as an example the albatross, which will fly hundreds of miles
to feed its baby chicks pieces of plastic, which it mistakenly thinks of as
food. Albatross carcasses are found on beaches filled with hundreds of
plastic pieces, discarded by consumers.

The artist explains, 'I recently began to construct seabirds out of plastic
trash because birds are attracted to the graphics and colors on plastic
bags, bottles and other plastic waste. Through displaying plastic bags in a
form that is not typical or expected, I hope to draw attention to this
issue."

Art Access II Gallery is located at 230 South 500 West #125 in Salt Lake
City. Regular hours are M F, 10 to 6.

3) *Salt Lake Artist Reflects Upon the Gifts in Her Life As a Caregiver*

Art Access Gallery is pleased to host Gifts, a thought-provoking exhibit of
the autobiographical paintings of Salt Lake painter, Alice Perreault. Gifts
will hang from January 18 to February 8, 2008. The artist¹s reception will
take place Friday, January 18 from 6 to 5 PM during the Salt Lake Gallery
Association¹s monthly Gallery Stroll.

A well-established artist in Salt Lake City, Alice Perreault¹s life quickly
changed when her son Julius suffered a brain injury at birth, leaving him
with quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Her own injury was internal and severe.

Perreault¹s days are now filled making a high quality life for Julius as
well as for her sister Renee who has Down syndrome. She also spends her
evenings working on Kindred Spirits, a non-profit arts education
organization she founded that serves families dealing with disabilities.

And now she paints again. Her large canvases are filled with angst, but also
with hope. Gifts reflects the gifts she has been given by having Julius and
Renee in her life, reflects the emotional costs of such gifts and transfers
both (as a gift) to all who experience her art.

Art Access Gallery is located at 230 South 500 West # 125 in SLC. Regular
gallery hours are M F, 10 AM to 6 PM.
