Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents
"The Musical of Musicals: The Musical," directed by Jim Christian,
January 25 and 26 at 7:30 pm in the Allred Theater, Val A. Browning
Center for the Performing Arts. All Tickets are $10 for this
fundraising event. Funds raised will help to send the production to
the 2008 ACTF
Regional Festival at California State Universtiy, Los Angeles
from February 11-16, 2008.
The exact performance dates of this production at the festival
have yet to be announced.
The "play," consisting of five musical theatre parodies on a
single theme, are the work of Eric Rockwell (music, book) and Joanne
Bogart (lyrics, book). It is full of one-liners, puns and other jokes
that are specifically based on the styles of five influential musical
theatre creators: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry
Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Kander and Ebb. Rockwell skillfully
manages to capture the distinctive sounds of the five composers, and
plays around with familiar melodies without ever being exact
copies.

on to productions around the country.
Salt Lake Acting Company has received notification that last
season's SEXSTING, by Doris Baizley and Susan Raffanti, has been
nominated for the American Theatre Critics Association's Steinberg
Award for best play produced outside New York City. Salt Lake Acting
Company produced the world premiere of SEXSTING in January of 2007.
Six ATCA/Steinberg New Play finalists will be chosen in January, and
three ATCA/Steinberg New Play winners will be announced in early April
at the Humana Festival in Louisville, Kentucky.
Other recent news updates from SLAC's developed and/or world

J. T. Rogers, premiered by SLAC in the 2004-2005 season. The play will

produced by New Theatre in Florida and at the Adirondack Theatre
Festival.
Julie Jensen's DUST EATERS, developed and premiered by SLAC in
2005, was produced in August by The Borderlands Theatre Company of
Tucson, AZ. Ms. Jensen's TWO-HEADED, (a SLAC premiere in 2000), was

Grant From The ALSAM Foundation Allows Construction Of New Animal
Facility
Officials at Utah's Hogle Zoo announced today they received a
$1.5 million grant from The ALSAM Foundation to fund construction for
a new and improved animal health center. This grant will allow Hogle
Zoo to provide even better animal care to the over 200 species that
live within the Zoo.
The new facility, which will be named in honor of L.s. skaggs,
will include expanded diagnostic and treatment areas, updated and
upgraded surgical and quarantine elements, as well as office space for
our two full-time veterinarians and their staff. The ALSAM gift will

How Did We Get So
Musical?
Why on earth should musical capacity be 'natural' to human

the way that we do. The Telegraph (UK) 12/14/07
