Silly me, I should read more carefully first and write later.
The official announcement did (very cleverly and easy to overlook, I
think) indicate the members could join and participate and non-members
could read and browse and lurk.
Some of you have read more carefully than I. Sorry for the confusion.
And, under the circumstances, this will probably be my last opportunity
