I can relate to that. Since I retired I have given away about two hundred
issues of professional journals, (Speech Communication and Theatre), sixty
some theatre anthologies, about four hundred individual copies of plays, two
sets of encyclopedias, and over a thousand other books and I have been
schlepping to libraries, school libraries and other such places like that
(tax deductions, you know) two or three 12 foot shelves of books on
puppetry, theatre design, dramatic theory, playwriting, and antiques. I
asked my bishop the other day if I could bring in a hundred or so LDS themed
books (ranging from Joseph Fielding Smith to Gerald Lund) to let the members
plunder through and take what they want (He was a bit resistant, but he is
thinking about it) and with all that, I will still have a rather frightening
collection of books. (I think some of them are secretly multiplying in the
backs of the shelves.) As for science fiction and fantasy I had no problem.
All six kids are fantasy readers so they made short work of that collection.

sometimes think that the last persona is the most important- and most
valuable.

Maybe when you're OFT (old, fat & tired) like me you'll get over that hope.
I decided a while back that I am simply not required to give my time to
something that I feel has not done enough to earn my devotion.
I've walked out on a few plays (at intermission) and put down (pun
intended) a few books in my day. In fact, I've recently grown too weary of
trying to make any sense out of anything that Gene Wolfe has written.
(Anybody interested in trade editions of all 4 + 1 books of the New Sun, all
4 books of the Long Sun, all 3 books of the Short Sun, all 2 books of the
Wizard Knight and the first 2 books of Latro? Goin' cheap!)
