n.
1.
a. A representation, especially pictorial or literary, in which the
subject's distinctive features or peculiarities are deliberately
exaggerated to produce a comic or grotesque effect.
b. The art of creating such representations.
2. A grotesque imitation or misrepresentation: The trial was a
caricature of justice.
tr.v., -tured, -tur·ing, -tures.
To represent or imitate in an exaggerated, distorted manner.
A caricature may be unintentional, and I am willing to suggest that Ms.
Beck has done exactly that. However, even if her story is fictional in
that it is false in the facts, the story remains true in terms of the
culture it portrays. Erog, even if Ms. Beck is a liar, the lie does not
invalidate the larger truth. We have a problem in our culture, and the
fact is not that it is not going to go away until we admit that it
exists.
