Caricatures often contain a seminal seed of truth. History instructors
use the 'white man civilization' cartoons in the public media from the
turn of the last century all the time simply because they reveal a
problem exists within the culture regarding race and equality. Beck as
caricature can be dismissed as of worth to her attack on the culture, but
the seed of caricature remains: a problem exists, we all know that, and
it must be discussed -- even Beck as a loony-tune portrayal creates a
mini-storm of controversy. Stone the writer, for sure, when they go off
the deep end, but the overall message remains. Not all is well in Zion.

The book doesn't turn on the claims of abuse--those are just the
most sensational parts. The point is that she is an unreliable
narrator. Her book is so full of holes and patently ridiculous
stories that her critique of the culture is useless because it is a
caricature, not a true picture.
