4) *Come experience the power of the human voice!*

If you haven't heard about A Cappellastock, I wanted to send a quick note
out to remind you to get your tickets for it on Aug. 23rd. We are expecting
another sold out crowd of 4000 people. I need and want you and your family
there to enjoy the harmonies and showmanship of the great groups we are
bringing in this year.

XRP are the former members of Rockapella. This original group of Rockapella
has not performed with each other since '91. They are the group that kicked
off the hit TV game show Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, and started
the whole contemporary a cappella movement.

Hi-Fidelity has one of the funniest acts. For those Star Trek fans they do
a tribute to the original Star Trek. You may have also seen them on Last
Call with Carson Daily as the joke explainers or the X Box commercial.

Tonic Sol Fa creates more sound from just 4 guys then any other group. They
have sold over a million CD's, have their own Christmas special with PBS,
and have performed with Jay Leno and many other. On a personal note they
are truly the inspiration of T Minus 5. Without them we would not have our
bass, Fish.

Of course T Minus 5 will also be performing that night. We have a few
surprises that no other audience has seen yet too.

8) *Salt Lake County officials seeking input on Facilities Master plan*

Surveying Arts and Culture in Salt Lake County

Can't get enough arts and culture in your life? Are you an arts junkie and
never miss an exhibit, play, or performance? Or do you go to one event a
year and call it good?

Whatever your level of participation in arts and culture events, Salt Lake
County's Center for the Arts (CFA) needs your input. CFA is conducting an
online survey to understand how County residents regard arts and culture
events.

The survey is anonymous and does not require you to enter any personal
information.

You can access the survey from the County website – www.slco.org. Center
for the Arts plans to run the survey through August 20.

The survey is part of the Center for the Arts Cultural Facilities Master
plan. Survey results will be analyzed and incorporated in the final
Cultural Facilities Master Plan document, to be released in late September,
2008.

The Cultural Facilities Master Plan will provide the County with a framework
for developing and sustaining cultural facilities across the County. The
processes defined in the Plan will help the County in making decisions to
meet the current and future needs of Salt Lake County's arts and cultural
organizations, its residents, and visitors.

Salt Lake County Center for the Arts owns and operates Abravanel Hall,
Capitol Theatre, and the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.

9) *Fiber Artist Marilyn Moore to present Art Talk at the Salt Lake Art
Center*

As a child in Utah Marilyn Moore learned to embroider, knit, crochet, and
sew. Her love of fiber work continued into adulthood as she added spinning,
weaving, and basketry to her vocabulary. This broad variety of fiber art
techniques has allowed Moore to enrich her exploration of the physical and
metaphorical properties of vessels.

In her artist statement Moore says, "Using color to express an idea or even
just a mood is a means of expression that evolves like the slow processes
that I use. While very time consuming, this allows time for contemplation
and investigation into the basket form and ideas that I wish to reveal as
the work grows into it's finished form. An ancient art form, used in many
cultures for ceremonial purposes as well as for functional household uses,
it remains my way of linking myself to the continuum of basket artists past
and present."

Moore will present her Art Talk in conjunction with the exhibition,
Interweave: Innovations in Contemporary Basketry, currently on view through
October 4, 2008 in the Salt Lake Art Center's Street Level Gallery. Join us
for this fun and informative Art Talk on Gallery Stroll Friday, August 15 at
6:30 p.m. as Moore discusses her artwork in Interweave as well as her new
works, processes, and ideas. (Hop on the FREE shuttle bus that runs between
No Brow Coffee (315 E. 300 S.) and the Salt Lake Art Center from 6 to 9:30
p.m.)

Moore received a BFA with an emphasis in fiber from the University of
Washington. She currently lives in Seattle, Washington and continues to
explore the vessel form and has expanded her work into woven jewelry forms.

Admission to the Art Center is always FREE.

The Salt Lake Art Center is located at 20 S. West Temple.

Hours: Tuesday - Thursday & Saturday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday: 11 a.m. to
9 p.m. Closed Holidays.

10) *Odyssey Dance Theatre Goes to Beijing as Utah's Cultural Ambassadors*

Odyssey Dance Theatre is one of nine American dance companies invited to
perform at the booking Dance Festival 2008 beijing, coinciding with the
Olympics. It is rare that China has the opportunity to showcase the newest
and most innovative of American dance companies. This will be an
unparalleled event to connect these two cultures.

Each performance will open and close with a top company from China,
including the Beijing Modern Dance Company and the National Ballet of China;
thus, attracting a strong audience and international press. To perform on
the same stage with such illustrious companies is a tribute to Odyssey and
its growing stature in the dance world.

Matinee performances will be held off site at a Nine Theatres venue on the
outskirts of Beijing for local migrant workers and Chinese children, who do
not otherwise have access to the incomparable live theatre experience and
also for Olympic attendees at a related venue. Tickets will be given to
orphanages, local dance academies and the Olympics McDonald's Kids Champions
(most of whom are Chinese), who would greatly benefit from being exposed to
both national and international dance. Ticket prices will be kept to a
minimum, making the performances easily accessible to the general
population. Free tickets will be given to Olympic athletes, and performance
times have been scheduled in a strategic manner to avoid conflicting with
highly ranked Olympic events.

The festival has three goals: the first is to showcase the best dance on the
world stage next to the best Olympic athletics; the second is to bridge
political differences through cultural connections; and the third is to
donate a portion of ticket sales to earthquake victims.

Watch KSL TV for live coverage from Beijing of Odyssey's performances,
August 13 to 17.

Odyssey Dance Theatre is funded, in part, by Zoo, Arts & Parks. Best of
State in Dance 2006, 2007 and 2008 and Best of State in Arts and
Entertainment 2007, Odyssey Dance Theatre performs to critical acclaim and
standing ovations at home and on tour, nationally and internationally. (

August 14

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Indie rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, from Brooklyn/Philadelphia were
touted as the hottest unsigned band in the U.S. in 2005. Their self-titled
debut was self-produced, self-released, self-promoted, and self-distributed,
with a great deal of help from the grassroots indie blog machine. Rolling
Stone championed the cause by heralding the group as "Hot New Band" for 2005
and by the end of the year, CYHSY signed with U.K.-based Wichita Recordings.
In 2006, the group, with their new label, leaked out a few EPs before they
hit the shelves with their second full-length album, Some Loud Thunder, in
2007. Band members are Alec Ounsworth, Lee Sargent, Robbie Guertin, Tyler
Sargent and Sean Greenhalgh. www.clapyourhandssayyeah.com

Delta Spirit

After the San Diego-based emo outfit Noise Ratchet called it quits in 2004,
co-founders Jon Jameson and Brandon Young decided to ditch their
punk-influenced songwriting for something more soulful and rootsy. The two
left Rick Rubin's American label and joined forces with Matthew Vasquez,
Sean Walker, and Kelly Winrich to form Delta Spirit. Pitching their style
between the indie rock and alt-country camps, the group issued the "I Think
I've Found It" EP in 2006 and hit the road alongside Cold War Kids and Dr.
Dog. A self-released full-length effort, "Ode to Sunshine," followed in
2007.

Produced by Troika Entertainment, LLC, the national tour of CATS is the only
production in North America sanctioned by Andrew Lloyd Webber. With original
direction by Trevor Nunn and choreography by Gillian Lynne this is the CATS
credited with the British invasion of Broadway. The national tour of CATS
recently celebrated its 25th anniversary season.

On May 11, 1981, CATS opened at the New London Theatre in the West End.
Eight years later it celebrated its first important milestone: after 3,358
performances CATS became the longest running musical in the history of
British theatre. CATS played its final performance on its 21st birthday, May
11, 2002.

In 1982 CATS opened at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City and
continued to live up to its motto "Now and Forever." On June 19, 1997, CATS
became the longest running musical on Broadway. It ended its 18 year run on
September 10, 2000.

Based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and with music by
Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS won seven 1983 Tony Awards including Best Musical,
Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes.

In October of 1991 CATS became the longest continuously touring show in
American theatre history. Five continents, 26 countries, over eight and a
half million audience members and 25 years later, CATS is still America's
most loved family musical.

Celebrating not only 25 years but the birth of the musical spectacular, CATS
is still revolutionary and awe inspiring.

Now that it was been seen by millions of audience members worldwide, it is
time to celebrate with the whole family the magic, the mystery, the wonder
of CATS.

15) *Museums Receive Funds to Improve Facilities and Programs*

The Office of Museum Services recently awarded a total of $322,952 in grants
to museums throughout Utah. The 78 museums receiving the grants will use the
money to improve displays, meet preservation and cataloging issues, address
structural needs, and develop educational programs that coincide with
exhibitions. (A complete list of grant recipients follows the body of this
release.)

"These funds are very important to the preservation of Utah's arts,
scientific and geological discoveries, and historic artifacts. Simply put,
museums are repositories for the stories of this land and those that have
lived here," said Margaret Hunt, Director of the Division of Arts and
Museums. "OMS grants provide a small boost to museum budgets. This money
allows Utah's museums to take on the additional projects that improve the
facilities and polish the exhibitions that convey their particular story,
draw in new visitors, and give past guests a reason to come back to learn
more."

The 2008 awards were distributed to museums located in 22 of 29 counties,
including Box Elder, Cache, Carbon, Davis, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron,
Juab, Kane, Millard, Salt Lake, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Summit, Tooele,
Utah, Washington, Wayne, and Weber.

Each year, the Office of Museum Services accepts applications in two grant
categories. Project Support Grants provide up to $6,000 for collections
preservation, educational program expansion; and exhibition development.
Development Grants provide $1,000 for basic operational expenses. Museums
located in Utah are eligible to apply. Applications are due at the start of
April of each year. For more information on museum grants, visit
www.museums.utah.gov or call 801-355-3589.

The Office of Museum Services is part of the Division of Arts and Museums
within the Utah Department of Community and Culture.

Archaeologists Discover Shakespeare's First
Theatre<http://www.thestage.co.uk/news/newsstory.php/21489/theatre-where-shakespeares-work-premiered>

It is thought that they have uncovered the original brick foundations of The
Theatre - one of London's first playhouses, which was built in 1576 and was
home to the company in which Shakespeare first performed as an actor, the
Lord Chamberlain's Men. It was dismantled in 1599 and its timbers were
shipped across the Thames to construct the original Globe Theatre.
